- A quick way to test it is to take some rubbing alcohol and put it on a tissue and roll it over the ball a couple of times in all directions, and see if that gets it to work. The alcohol will give the ball some extra traction for a little while, in fact you may find the ball drags at first because it is too clean. If this allows the mouse to work properly then you haven't cleaned the rollers well enough. The build up on rollers can be quite a bit, and hard to see. Since I use relatively rare and expensive trackball keyboards I have to clean mine alot. I remove the ball, take a small razor knife (one of those that comes 3 to a package, small - large - glass scraper - for 99 cents), and use that to scrape each roller gently. make sure you don't gouge the rubber. Every now and then blow on it to get rid of the gunk you are scraping off. Put some alcohol on a tissue and gently rub it on each roller making sure to turn it all the way around the whole roller. Clean the ball again with alcohol and put it back in and you should be ready to er roll Or as someone suggested get a new one at Wal-Mart, Ocean State Job lot etc. for 10 bucks. Good luck.

- Your landlord refuses to replace a unit he/she removed? Call your tenant /landlord association - see the yellow pages - this is against the law. Apartments rented with optional (smoke fire detectors) must maintain and replace units so installed. (wireless or hardwired) You could always put your new unit over the place where the landlord removed the previous unit. (first take a picture of the place where the unit used to be - do this with a newspaper close so you can establish a date - time frame.)

- Unions are fittings that allow local disconnections without having to cut pipe. Most traps do have 'union' fittings - but that is not the proper term. Those are properly slip-nut fittings. Both are linked below. A hard-connected PVC trap is also linked below - such a fitting will not leak if snaked (unless broken, of course). Now, it is quite unlikely that a trap such as you describe would have removable fittings - it is far more likely that the connections are solid - especially as fitted traps are more costly than solid traps and from what you describe your house was done 'on the cheap'. Note also - if you do have to get into the ceiling it would be much better were that trap to be removed and replaced in the proper location directly under the sink. If you can avoid the expense, great. But if not, you will only have to do it once.

- Bring stickers for whenever they are good. Some for boys and some for girls. I babysit a ton of kids and all of them love when i give them stickers!! Also, a good idea for somthing to do is bring thick string and cherios and make a delish necklace/bracelet etc with the cherios!! The kids will love it and be preocupied with making the necklaces for 1-maybe even 3 hours! Suggest they make the necklaces for their mom and dad, and you can make them too so you dont get bored :) This is a good snack too. I use this idea on all the kids i babysit and depending on how old they are it keeps them occupied for a long time :D

- without seeing the job-but having done a lot of repairs in older houses-i can sympathise with your very real problem.the first being that the last home-owners either were unaware or were too cheap to do the job properly. there is only one solution that i would reccomendhire a licenced bonded plumber to inspect the projectwalls will probably have to be opened so be prepaired to hire a carpenter to repair the finished job. this is not a job for your local handyman-if done improperly it may cost you a lot more in the future. a TEMPORARY fix- you can use dialectric fittings-threaded one end(galv. end)-sweat joint other(copper end). i cannot stress enough that this is a band-aid fix.DO THE JOB RIGHT and save future expense headach.good luck
