- thin wall black tubing will work better by absorbing more heat faster.
- Q: First of all thanks for taking the time to read this and giving me any advice you might have.We have a 40 year old home and barely any insulationWe want to rent a blower and quot;snowquot; insulation and was wondering what costs we might be looking at? How hard is it to do it? What are some things we need to know? Will it really make that much of a difference in the temperature of the house?
- Sometimes, a project is better left to the prosIn this case, it'd be better for you to get several estimates from insulating companiesBlowing insulation into an attic area, especially at this time of year, is EXTREMELY hot work, since temperatures can reach 120 degrees in a non-vented attic areaWhen you get your estimates, make sure that the estimate includes the installation of baffles to eliminate covering the soffit venting (hopefully, you have soffit vents)If you do not have soffit venting, you'll need to have vents installed, since an attic needs to breatheHave the insulation contractors give you estimates on baffle installation and 12 inches of blown insulationOne other thing to look into is having roof vents installedThere are 2 types - the galvanized whirly bird type, and a power roof ventThe power vents are nice, and really don't cost that muchThey need a receptacle for operation, so you might have to have an outlet installed in the attic for this reasonAny reliable roofing contractor can install a power roof ventWhat is nice is that all power vents have a thermostat which can be preset so that the vent comes on when the temperature in the attic reaches a certain level (90 - 100 degrees for example)This feature will help with your heating and cooling costs and more than pays for the initial installationAny good Home Improvement store (Lowes, Home Depot) will carry several different power vents, select the one rated for the square footage of your attic areaBy the way - DO NOT install whirly bird or power vents unless you have soffit vents installed firstThe idea is that air is drawn up through the soffit venting, then vented through the whirly bird or power vent.

- Neither oneThe paper is a vapor barrier and it always goes against the ceiling or inside wall, before any insulationNot over the insulation or over existing insulationYou will get condensation at the paper, make the insulation wet and loose the insulating qualityYou want non faced insulation to lay over your existing insulationThe others are wrongCall a local builder and ask.

- Q: When we go to bed at night I often have to keep a blanket between my girlfriend and I BC she is so hot to the touchIt is as if she is radiating heat off her body like a radiator of a steam boilerIt would seem to me that it would be an uncomfortable way to spend the night, but she says it seldom bothers herWhile, not bothered by it, she does agree that her outside body temperature feels much higher than mineI am not sure if this is unhealthy or not, but it sure make for a miserable nights sleep, at least for meWe were both wondering what, if anything could be done to help her lower her outside body tempHas anyone else noticed such a thing and if so, what did you do to resolve the issue.that is, other than moving to another bed lolI will appreciate any and all input! Thanks, Mike
- I don't really have the answer, except for you to watch last night's episode of How I Met Your MotherHa! It was hilarious! The couple decided they slept better in twin beds.

- There are several things that you can do to flavor up a ham.have you ever tried a glaze? After the ham is smoked, if its the smokey flavor you ultimately want to achieve you can make a glaze with equal parts of brown sugar, cherry juice and pineapple juice with drops of liquid smoke to your tasting ( you can buy liquid smoke in any grocery store) if you want just flavor without the smokey taste you can omit the liquid smokeF.Y.I just keep in mind that the ham already naturally has the smokey taste so don't over do the liquid smoke.
