- Hardware stores sell large sheets of plastic to lay down over furniture for protection when painting. But these sheets aren't sticky like you are describing. Those plastic sheets don't have any adhesive on them. They stick because the very clean plastic sheets are applied to other pieces of very clean plastic. The closest you can get to this with a product from a local store would be plastic window covering that is applied to a wet window then the excess water is squeegied out. Look for a store that specializes in window treatments. Ask for tinted window plastic. Auto supply stores often have this in sizes for car windows. Unfortunately these products are a lot more expensive than the sheets sold for painting.
