- Q: A power house, P, is on one bank of a straight river 200 m wide, and a factory, F, is on the opposite bank 400 m down stream from P. The cable has to be taken across the river under water at a cost of $6/m. On land the cost is $3/m. What path should be chosen so that the cost is minimized?
- Call the point across the river from the power house P' Call the point of intersection of the cable with the opposite bank C, which defines right triangle PP'C Let x be the distance from P' to C The two legs of triangle PP'C are 200 and x So the hypotenuse (the distance the cable travels underwater) is sqrt(200^2 + x^2) The distance the cable travels along the shore is (400 - x) (the distance from C to F) cost under water: 6sqrt(200^2 + x^2) cost on land: 3(400 - x) 1200 - 3x Total cost 6sqrt(200^2 + x^2) + 1200 - 3x Find derivative of cost: 6(2x) / (2sqrt(200^2 + x^2)) - 3 6x/sqrt(200^2 + x^2) - 3 Where derivative 0 will be a min for the cost 6x / sqrt(200^2 + x^2) 3 2x sqrt(200^2 + x^2) 4x^2 200^2 + x^2 3x^2 200^2 x^2 200^2 / 3 x +/- sqrt(200^2 / 3) +/- 200 / sqrt(3) but discard the negative root (since this won't be the minimum cost), so the distance from P' to the cable hitting land should be 200 / sqrt(3) 200 / (3^(1/2))
- Q: Can a small scale wind generator power enough batteries to power a 5 ton air conditioner? And if it can, how large of a battery bank would I need, and would a 220 power converter be good enough.
- While I'm not sure how much power your air conditioner will need (different units have differing efficiencies) but for a first approximation we might guess around 5KW. 5KW is on the larger side for residential wind turbines, but should be possible. Next problem is how much does the wind blow, if it is constant, or at least constant when you need air conditioning, then you don't need much of a battery bank. But you'd be lucky if that was the case, if you do need to store power for when the wind is low, then the turbine need to be sized to run the AC and charge the batteries, so an even bigger turbine will be needed. As you can see how much wind you have is a critical factor. A for size of battery bank, just to make the math easy I'll assume you need to store enough power to run the AC for 10 hours (this is just a wild guess, it might be far different) 5KW x 10 hours is 50,000 watt/hours, on Wikipedia I found a claim that typical energy density for lead acid batteries for this application is between 30 and 40WH ber kilogram, using the average, you'd need around 1400Kg (~3000lb) of batteries. There are really too many variables too give a good answer here, if you would have no problem spending $20,000 (and wouldn't totaly freakout over $50K+) then contact a local consultant for more information. If you can't afford that, it is probably not really worth giong any further since $20K is at the very bottom of the price range for that size of instalation.
- Q: I have a bank of 40 deep cycle batteries for power to my cabin. I want to cahrge these batteries using a 10KW generator. I am looking for a charge controller that will automatically run the generator when charge gets low in the battery bank and shut down the generator when it is fully charged. Any ideas?
- It's called a charge controller, look up on line. .
- Q: I work at citizens bank and I hate it. I used to be so nice to the customers and now I just think every customer is just plain dumb. So many people overdraw their accounts and whine about it to me. I understand some people need thier money back of course so im happy to give it to back. Secret is you can get three overdraft fees back per year. That is secret number one of course. But the dumb questions I get. What is pending mean. Or am I going to get a fee if i overdraw my account well yes dumb ***. How come that that check I deposited into my account isnt availible. Well two BUISNESS DAYS for a check that is off us, and one BUSINESS day on us. No Saturday isnt a business day NO sunday isnt a business day. ATM DEPOSITS take a llittle while longer. You deposit in the atm during saturday and then come cry to me about a check that is hold thinking i have the power to just hit a button and make it availiable.

- Q: . and what are the advantages and disadvantages of it when facing a financial crisis?
- The Federal reserve was signed into power by president Woodrow Wilson, in 1913 to act a central bank for the united states. In a recession the Fed lowers interest rates to allow more borrowing and more money in the system. During times of inflation the Fed increases interest rates to contract money in the money supply. To put things more technically, its obligations are: 1. Conducting the nation's monetary policy by influencing monetary and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long-term interest rates 2. Supervising and regulating banking institutions to ensure the safety and soundness of the nation's banking and financial system, and protect the credit rights of consumers 3. Maintaining stability of the financial system and containing systemic risk that may arise in financial markets 4. Providing financial services to depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign official institutions, including playing a major role in operating the nation's payments system
- Q: I know that some banks as soon as you open an account with them they give you like 100 dollars worth of overdraft protection or some give you more. does everybank have the power to do that or is it just some banks. is it at the banks discrepency? sbcs
- Overdraft protection is credit. You overdraft your account by $200. They charge you $40 fee for covering the check, and you make a deposit to cover the overdraft 2 days later. That makes it one of the most profitable things a bank does - especially when you consider that it's *cheaper* to cover your overdraft. It takes more manpower to bounce a check than to cover it. But a bank would be silly to extend credit to just anyone. If they did that, every check kiter in a 13-state area would open an account there. But yes, every bank has the power to offer overdraft protection, and almost every one does - but they don't offer it to everyone.
- Q: Any thoughts about What Are The Disadvantages of Online Banking? Thanks.
- Yes okorder
- Q: I, like most people, am sick of banks and their power over the world. I have recently heard about something called a credit union:
- Sorry I like big banks. - Available ATMS all over the US and all over the world - 24 hour customer service - Easy to transfer money - Easy to understand top notch websites - They treat everyone with respect no names like baby, honey or sweetie - Open longer hours Credit unions are not for everyone. If you have ever dealt with overdraft fees - then a credit union is for you. Remember overdraft too much - and they will kick you out. ATM locations all over the US is a big plus for me. Just about everywhere I drive, I can find an ATM from my bank. /
- Q: How to calculate (or build) the capacitor bank (power factor/correction improvement) for 900 KW generator having 1565 Amps capacity, voltage 380 V to 400 Vac ?How many ways / methods to do that ? which one would be best cheapest ?thanks
- Rated apparent power A 1565*660 1.033 kVA rated power factor p.f. nom. P/A 900/1.033 0.87 φ arccos 0,87 0,513 rad tanφ 0.563 rated reactive power Q P tanφ 900*0,563 507 kVAR Let's assume minimum p.f. being 0.7!!!!.then tan φ1 1 Without any power factor correction (improvement) the relevant power P1 will be : P1 A*0.7 723 kw and the relevant Q1 : Q1 P1*tan φ1 725 kVAR. If you want to get improved power factor 1.00, then u need a capacitor bank Q1 worth 725 kVA @ 380 V, then : 725*10^3 380^2/Xc phase impedance Xc 380^2/725*10^3 0.20 ohm C 10*6/(ω*Xc) 10^6/62.8 15.9*10^3 μF
