Q: solar panel capacity, how do it work
Solar panels are made of solar cells.Solar cells are mainly made of a semiconductor called silicon, when sunshine on it,solar energy is converted into electrical energy by photovoltaic. The energy knocks electrons loose, allowing them to flow freely. This flow of electrons is a current, this current, together with the cell's voltage (which is a result of its built-in electric field or fields), defines the power (or wattage) that the solar cell can produce.
Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of hurricanes?
Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of hurricanes. However, it is important to ensure that the solar panels are designed and installed to withstand strong winds and other extreme weather conditions. Proper mounting and anchoring techniques, along with robust construction materials, can increase the resilience of solar panels against hurricanes. Additionally, regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to ensure their functionality and safety in such areas.
Q: I would like to know how do you build a solar panel?
There are several types of solar panels. If you mean photovoltaic panels for generating electricity, that is a really advanced project that few amateurs are equipped to do. In the long run, it will be a lot cheaper and easier to buy factory made PV panels. You can try building one by sandwiching an array of photovoltaic cells between a sheet of glass or plexiglass and a sheet of aluminum. Remember that this assembly must be able to withstand great heat, and it must be sealed to make absolutely sure it does not leak. So basically, you need to lay out the PV cells and wire them together to get the desired voltage and current, with some arrangement to allow the wires to extend outside without leaking. Then you enclose the panel around all four edges with aluminum channel and seal with silicone sealer. Lay it on thick and test thoroughly with water hoses to eliminate all leaks. As mentioned, it's easier and cheaper to buy them factory made. If you mean a heat collector for a solar house heating system or hot water system, that is just a matter of building a thin, flat aluminum box with a glass lid. For hot air, you just need to circulate the air through the box when the sun is shining. For water, you need to have some arrangement to pass the water through the compartment in thin walled metal tubing. You won't be surprised when I say it's cheaper to buy one factory made. Good luck.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on parking lots?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on parking lots. In fact, parking lots can provide ample space for the installation of solar panels, making use of the otherwise unused area. This not only generates clean and renewable energy but can also provide shade for vehicles, reducing the need for air conditioning and promoting sustainability.
Q: 3.8 volts is required to fully charge a battery. But at 3.8 volts, the battery can be overcharged without the use of a controller correct? What if I don't care if the battery is fully charged? In the case of our family boat, I just installed a new radio, so I'm a little worried about power consumption. So now for the real question; If I hook a 2 volt panel to the batteries, do I need to worry about overcharging them? Or will the batteries stop the charging process once they reach 2 volt?I built the panel myself, it's 8 volts at 3.5 amps open circuit. I have tabs at every 3 volt increment on the panel so that I can use less voltage than 8 if I want to power something directly, (ex:2 volt radio)So I'm using the 2 volt tab at 3.5 amps(approx) for a total of approx 48 watts
I have been using solar panels for over ten years never until recently bothered to use a charge controller, it depends really on how much power your batteries can hold how often they will be drained from use of the connected dc-ac inverters. While constant daylight charging at 8v 3.5a/hr is quite heavy it is not excessive, 2v lead acid battery chargers give a voltage output of appx 4.8v but the fluctuating output of a solar panel means you may well charge at 8v for some time but with occasional shade etc it will more likely average at 5v which I think is quite acceptable.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a government building or facility?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a government building or facility. In fact, many government entities have already started incorporating solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective solution to meet their energy needs. Solar panels not only help reduce carbon emissions but also provide long-term savings on electricity bills.
Q: my dad wants to run all his lights in his shop on solar panels, he has 9 600 watt hps lights. how many solar panels would it take to pull this off
It depends on how many watts of electricity you wants..
Q: Can solar panels be installed on wineries or vineyards?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on wineries or vineyards. In fact, many wineries and vineyards around the world have adopted solar energy systems to power their operations and reduce their carbon footprint.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a theme park or tourist attraction?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a theme park or tourist attraction. In fact, many theme parks and tourist attractions have started to incorporate solar panels as a way to generate clean and sustainable energy. Solar panels can be installed on rooftops, parking lots, or even as part of decorative structures within the park. This not only helps to reduce the environmental impact of the attraction but also serves as a visible display of the commitment to renewable energy, inspiring visitors to consider sustainable practices in their own lives.
Q: I live in the UK, I have no savings (so would have to take out a loan of about ?8000), I don't know how long I plan to stay in my house, I might want to move in a year or two to take advantage of a better job so I want to keep the option open of being able to sell my house without having to pay off the cost of having the panels fitted (which I probably won't get back on the increased value they add to my house). What are the main advantages of having solar panels? What are the pitfalls the ever so eager cold callers with quotas to fill don't tell you about?Basically is it worth having them?Thankyou.
In 2007, the cost of solar photoelectric power was 38 cents US per kwh while the cost of coal power was 0.6 cents per kwh but consumer costs for power were 2 cents per kwh as additional coal power plants are not being built so wind and natural gas are being built. Without government incentives, solar power are not economic. However, the UK has extensive subsidies for solar, I would suggest that you learn how to perform Internal Rate of Return ( IRR ) calculations and Net Present Value ( NPV ) calculations to evaluate your financial decision, excel has an excellent =XIRR() function to do this with. Most people talk about payback periods but that's due to the poor level of financial education in the population and payback periods don't give you an appropriate evaluation of the time value of money. With solar power, it's a razor thin line of economics so you have to get the calculations right to know what's in your best interest, the laymen hearsay isn't going to do it.
