A single panel like that isn't immediately useful unless you have a device that takes exactly that voltage, and is not critical. A solar water pump might fall into that category. For anything else, you would need additional equipment, such as a battery, charger, and inverter. Even at these prices, a single panel is unlikely to save you money over the electric company in the long run, unless your electricity is very expensive. There is economy of scale, so larger systems can and do save money, at least for people located in the right place. Keep in mind that fossil fuels are based on energy collected by photosynthesis over millions of years. The efficiency of photosynthesis with modern plants is about 0.5% and the theoretical maximum efficiency of photosynthesis is 6.6%. All of our current energy use is based upon a small fraction of 0.5% efficiency over millions of years.

- First of all you seem to be talking about making a solar photovoltaic panel instead of a solar thermal panel. Most solar panels will produce DC electricity. Your house uses AC electricity. You can set up the solar photovoltaic panels to send their current to charge a battery bank and then you can tap into that battery bank and send the power to a voltage inverter to change the power to AC. The better inverters will do a better job of this. The system has to be matched and sized properly. If you are not familiar with electrical work you should have someone who is more knowledgeable help or do the work. Good luck with your project.

- I also doubt your claim of 4% efficiency. That strength solar panel is brand new technology (this year) and is not available in retail sizes yet. You probably got duped by some false marketing... In any case; even assuming you had a 4% solar panel, there are too many things for us to give you an accurate assessment of the power production. Clouds, location on earth, season, angle of the solar panel; these are all things we need to know to calculate it. Odds are it should have the average rate it produces electricity written on the back panel or with the instructions that came with it. I know of no solar panel retailers that do not also offer free installation. You should get your money back or get that free installation (and then you never have to worry about how much power it has, it just gets you what it can).
- Q: I have a college project due within a week, and it involves a 00 Watt solar panel and a 2V 7.5Ah Battery. I got the project finished up and producing free energy for my house in September, however recently the battery I bought, that was specifically made to hold Solar Power, lost its charge (unsure how or why) and it is pretty much useless. Can I just go to a store and buy any 2V car battery to use?
- Those answers are partly correct. You cannot recharge two 2 volt batteries in series with a photovoltaic panel with an open circuit voltage of 8 volts. You possibly over charged your 7.5 AH battery with a 00 watt photovoltaic panel, which can supply 8 amps to the battery with unusually bright sun light = fully charged in one hour. More likely you did not charge the battery for a month or more which killed it. Also discharging below 2.6 volts shortens the life of the battery, or short circuiting the terminals even briefly. Yes a deep cycle sealed lead acid battery rated 2 AH is likely the best unless you buy a 00 amp hour marine battery which weighs about 80 pounds and will take at least two days of bright Sun to fully charge.

- good idea going solar, i would suggest doing a google search, as their are many suppliers. then you need to calculate the amount of wattage you think these apartment houses are going to require. volts x amps = watts. if you are going to be off of the power grid, then you will need a way to store excess energy during good times,( lots of sun) in order to use it during bad times ( no sun ). or see if you are able to sell your extra power back to your local power company, check because some companies do not allow this. you could even have a generator for emergencies if you go off the power grid. on final note, solar is a pretty sizable investment up front and your profits are seen mainly in the long run, but you will get energy savings immediately, but more likely those savings will go to paying off the solar panels also, you will need a converter to convert the ac (alternate current) produced by the panels into dc ( direct current ) which is used by the apartments. it will tie in to the existing electrical system in the apartments. i know germany is really pushing solar energy and they offer their citizens some pretty sweet deals to go solar. the companies are profiting from this so i would suggest looking for a supplier in germany, first. they may have better deals, or try bp (british petroeum) they have been in the solar business for awhile. i wish you success!
