The store salesman will find a pipe with the exact O.D. dimension you measured (to use as a reference only), then match up compression fittings to connect from the wall to a new horizontal piece, then to the p-trap. (What you called a J bend pipe). PVC fittings will be much easier to work with also. Connecting the drain housing to the sink is done using plumber's putty under the lip of the housing and tightening the nut underneath, which will create a waterproof seal. Do not use silicone.

This would require considerable analysis. I would agree with most of the other responders that your reconfigure shouldn't make much difference. If you wish to reduce the effect of the added piping length, you could increase the pipe diameter.

Most people seem to think that slots in club houses would do a lot to boost interest in the sport because a huge % of horse racing is handicapping. I'm not against it, and if it would draw more people to te track, it would be a plus. Horse racing gets a bad rap mostly from breakdowns, but people do not realize that only a very small percentage of horses are fatally injured. They see one race with a fatal breakdown and wallah, it sets a bad image for the whole sport. Truth is, the breakdown of Eight Belles during this years Kentucky Derby, is the only fatality in the history of the race. This sport certainly needs more media coverage. The Breeders Cup being televised on ABC, then switching to ESPN was not in good taste IMO. When the Superbowl comes around, it gets plenty of media attention well in advance. I wish they would give Horse racing the same respect.

Q: Will the alarm still go off: 7018 isn't well suited for vertical-down root passes, due to it's heavy, sluggish, fast-freezing slag. The thick heavy slag tend to cause inclusions when trying to fill an open root gap on pipe. It's traditional to use 601/6011 for the root pass, because it performs far better for open roots, 7018 is used for the filler passes. It's also traditional to use TIG for the root which generally produces far better root quality than stick welding. the root pass is critical because the greatest stress is on the inside of the pipe. If welding is absolutely your only option the best quality will be had by TIG welding the root, instead of 6010/6011. I would strongly recommed TIG roots. It is quite difficult to get a consistent root pass on small pipes. With pipe welding quality prep work and accurate fit-up are extremely important. Furthermore for small pipes, using screw-on fittings will likely save you labor in the long run. Not to mention being probably the more reliable option. Using a pipe vice and a pipe threading tool takes less time and skill than properly done fitting and welding. You might also consider brazing with slip-on joints. Brazing is faster, easier, and generally less prone to leaks than welding.
