Q: The effect of vermiculite as a medium on plants
Loose soil, good permeability, strong water absorption and small temperature change, are beneficial to the growth of crops and reduce the input of fertilizer. In the newly emerged soilless cultivation technology, it is an essential raw material.
Q: Ok I‘ve had my dragon for a year now and decided I wanted a mate for him, it‘s about time and I‘m ready for another one, they are so great huh hehe?! Ok so anyway I‘m starting to worry alot and might not get it cause I‘m afraid of the female laying eggs, people make it sound so hard and scary. What would I do with the eggs, would I let her lay them in dirt or take her out, do I leave the eggs where she lays them, will they hatch that way, oh my so many questions. I don‘t want to read it all from a site cause those people make it sounds hard and crazy to do, so have any of you guys hatched any eggs?
It is easy breeding. The job gets harder when raising the young as they hatch. You want to make sure they are the healthiest and well fed little dragons so they have a good start in life. They are little eating and pooping machines. LOL You will need to make sure your female gets the extra calcium and nutrients she needs to produce healthy offspring. Be prepared to separate your male because he could harass her. When the female lays you will need to make some kind of lay box. There are many ways to do this. You will need to purchase an incubator to hatch the eggs. Feeding and caring for the little dragons does take time and money.
Q: instead of perlite is it okay to use vercumulite for my venus flytrap
The Pink Panther recommends fiberglass insulation, 6-9 inches ceiling, 6 inches floor, and 3 inches walls.
Q: Can you put vermiculite in the fish tank?
Animal husbandry: expanded vermiculite has unique structural and surface properties, as well as non-toxic, sterile and chemically inert. It can be used as a carrier, an adsorbent, a fixative, and a feed additive.
Q: Its in a vase with water now.
Lol, listen to Jordan, how come your not top contributor yet? Your funny as heck! But um, mary k make sure the soil is reasonably wet when planting your now spider plant. Some drunken folks around here have referred to it as a syder plant. Fill a garden pot up w/ soil and water the dirt, so that every speck of soil, even those small white balls ( what are they, vermiculite? ) are soaked. Wait five minutes, lightly push the soil down in the pot. You'll find that there was less dirt than you thought was previous administered to the garden host, I mean garden pot. :) Depending on how much level is left ( lightly pushing the soil down, eliminates air pockets and improves overall root growth on any plant and makes watering an easier task. ), place your new found, water logged, rooted spider/syder plant on the soil, dig a little depression if you must. When transplanting cuttings, it's a good idea to remind yourself to make sure the roots are pointing downward. If you take to mind, to remember that you will most likely succeed in any future transplanting. Backfill around the spider plant, you just planted. Meaning, pile some dirt to cover up the roots. Water again. Lightly if you can. So, as if not to flood the plant but, to simply water the dirt in, around the roots. A shower spray from a garden hose or a low pressure from the kitchen sink faucet sprayer would work great. Remember to keep your happily, newly planted spider plant's soil moist for a week after transplanting. Remember, it's used to living in water. Not drenched, just content. After its established itself, let the soil dry out before watering again. Oh my. Have fun! Good luck, enjoy. Good night, it's late for me. (:
Q: My orchid plants leaves are turning yellow and falling offam I giving too much waTER OR NOT ENOUGH?
From what you have said, obviously they have been through an ordeal due to being dried out and being shipped. Being dried out is not necessarily a problem, because some orchid genus endure periods of drought in their natural environment. Others, however, cannot tolerate it. So, to really help you, we need to know what kind of orchids you bought. One thing I would be wondering about is if they experienced severe cold during shipping. They may be losing leaves due to this rather than due to anything you have done, and now that they are in a less stressful environment again they may recover just fine, albeit with a loss of some foliage. Again, knowing what orchids you have would be helpful in giving suggestions as to how you can best care for them. There are literally thousands of different kinds, each with its own needs as far as light, water, temperature, and humidity go. One thing that rarely helps and that often is fatal is over-, not under-watering. If you planted them in good quality orchid mix, watering them every couple of days is too much.
Q: I work in a greenhouse and have always wondered about that. It looks like little gold flakes.
perlite and vermiculite. Also the sand or rocks at the bottom would make good drainage.
Q: What is Vermiculite called in Denmark?
Put okorder
Q: Because I am running put of space to grow vegetables in the vegetable patch, I am thinking of growing more in broccoli boxes. I am also considering making a soil medium of half cheap potting soil and half garden soil (clay). Then I will add a hand-full of manure and bloodamp;bone. Will this be good for planting vegetables?Or do I need so expensive mixture e.g. vermiculite, coir, mushroom compost, vermicast, etc.?
2 advantages of manufactured composts are their sterility and lightness, putting garden soil in the mix ,especially clay not loam, increases the weight, affects the drainage and you could be introducing pests and diseases. Read up on the recipes for Levingtons /John Innes composts if you want to make the best home made.
Q: I‘m thinking that they are protesting the fact that they are still in pots and not in the ground. What do you think?I have a little area near a privacy fence where I could plant them. This is TX, and it gets really hot. I could plant them with morning/aftnoon sun, or afternoon shade, or I could plant them where there is mostly shade. Opinions? Thanks, y‘all
