- Q:Would it have any affect on my plants? What about vegetables? Strawberries? I have quite a bit left, I'm thinking of using it in one of my small planting areas.
- Succulent soil would be the easiest to use. But if you want to use your Miracle Grow buy a small bag of perlite and mix it in about 50/50 with the Miracle Grow. Perlite is a light-weight rock and will give the Miracle Grow a texture more to the liking of succulents. Vermiculite holds water, so don't use that.
- Q:OK, so I was thinking of adding compost, blood and bone and some vermiculite (I‘m told that I‘ll get goo drainage using this) but now I want to change my 3 choices to cow manure, compost and sea weed concentrate/solution. Will these 3 new choices still achieve the same results as the last choices or should I stick to my original ones? Also, what I want to do is because my soil is very clay-like, I want to improve it. I WANT TO USE ANYTHING ORGANIC!I also live in Hervey Bay, QLD, Australia if it helps.PS: Is seaweed concentration/solution, vermiculite and blood bone organic or not? I already know that cow manure and compost is organic.
- So you live in a nice dry environment where permaculture is king. I wish we could trade places. :) I'm in Las Vegas, NV where most of our soil is a nice, hard, compacted clay. I've been pouring over permaculture books, which advocate completely organic, sustainable, long term methods for improving the conditions of wherever it is you want to plant. If you're willing to invest a season or two in your soil, whatever organic material you add is going to be, for the most part, beneficial. Cow manure will give you a higher salt content, which is definitely not a good thing for clay. As long as you use it in moderation, you should be fine. But if your intention with manure is to add nitrogen, consider planting a cover crop while you're improving the soil; maybe alfalfa or clover. Any type of legume will add nitrogen to your soil, and later, your plants. Compost helps your soil by inviting microbes (earthworms, beneficial fungi and bacteria) into your garden to slowly eat your awesome additions and turn nutrients into a usable form for your plants. I would say compost and a layer of mulch (pine needles, leaves, etc) on top would be perfect even if you don't want to plant a cover crop. The microbes eating that layer on top of your soil will produce a gummy substance after every meal that will cause your soil to aggregate and give your clay soil much more pore space, eventually turning it into a loam. And the organic matter will retain moisture, so make sure you don't till in all this goodness, just layer it right on top and your living soil will pick up the rest of the slack. Don't forget the mulch!!!!!
- Q:I know that perlite and vermiculite both release fluoride and fluoride is bad for some plants like lucky bamboo for example. I was wondering if there is anything else that can be used in potting soil instead to improve drainage.
- Vacuum it up. There is no asbestos in it.
- Q:stone which does not sink in water?
- Scott's Lawn products. Miracle-Gro products. There are many more.
- Q:(Acer planoides) I purchased these seeds at a market, the instructions on the packet say this.Place the seeds in a ziplock bag with a little damp not wet vermiculite and place in the fridge for 90120 days. inspect regularly and if seeds start to germinate remove and sow. plant the seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in good quality compost and keep moisture around 60 to 70 F.90 to 120 days? Its going to take at least 3 months for these seeds to germinate? And why does the months of cold air in a wet environment make these seeds germinate (that just sounds like it would cause hibernation/preservation)?
- The seeds need a hibernation period of a couple months at below 35 degrees. It is just the way it is with upper latitude deciduous trees.
- Q:It is non-metallic, contains iron and magnesium, when heated it swells and expands into light worm-like pieces of vermiculite which is used as a medium for planting seeds. Thanks!
- I'd okorder
- Q:Ok, my beardy finally laid her eggs, i made her do this in a seperate container and all that jazz, but the incubator i bought online is going to be another week away GRRRRWhat i want to know is whether they will be fine in the soil they are in at the moment or whether i should get a heat lamp to help keep the soil warm, or if i should put them in the vermiculite and just have it out in the open like that, or anything that will help them develop. If everything went to plan i would have been fully prepared for this but the postage got held up and i want to give them the best possible chance of surviving
- if i was in your situation i would get a heat source (heat mat, lamp) but then they would need to be moist so drizzle a little water on the substrate but not too much.just so it is slightly wet.keep your eye on them so they dont dry out. you could also use damp kitchen roll over the eggs if you decide to use a lamp. IMPORTANT! DO NOT TURN THE EGGS OVER FROM HOW THEY HAVE BEEN HATCHED! this can drown the embryo within the egg and kill it.
- Q:hello.i am thinking about getting a pet tarantula.i have been wanting one for the past year.and i think it is about time get one.So I have never owned a pet tarantula before just rats, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, lizards. What is a good breed for a beginner.and what are the basic care guides.and i am not looking for a pet to cuddle and handle all the time.so i know that most you shouldnt handle and if so a very little.so please and thankyou.:D
- Pet tarantulas are cool spiders, but beware of the poison.
- Q:I have recently found that my family was exposed to vermiculite, a material containing asbestos, in my childhood home. During my childhood my father remodeled our home several times. What is our risk of developing asbestos related diseases? (I am having trouble finding true cancer rates and information in google searches.)No one in my family is showing abnormalities 10+ years after moving out.
- NEWSPAPER!
- Q:i found this unique variety and i would like too root them but ive tried to root hibiscus b-4 ,no luck ugh!!
- Take cuttings (not hard wood) remove lower leaves the hump where the leaves are is called a node. That is where new roots will grow from. Get some vermiculite, per-lite or sharp sand. I prefer them in order given. Wet the medium (vermiculite) evenly and place cuttings in it. Try to keep your fingers and contaminates out of the mix. It can be done in trays or pots or in a old aquarium. Drainage is good or just keep the mix moist not soggy. Place in warm bright spot. A green house of fruit jar or plastic tent could be used if wilting starts. Fewer leaves are better than a lot. Cuttings should be about 6. Root stimulator or hormone could be used in mix to expedite faster rooting.
