The reason short (cold) air intakes work is NOT because they are engineered well. NO! It is because the original air box were so restrictive - due to noise restrictions. Just make sure you DON'T get metal tube intakes. The get heat soaked and significally warm up the air. The intakes make of PVC (or plastic) gets warm but will not release its heat to the air as much. === If you really want performance gain, you should also do the header pipes (if the mustand did not come with factory pipes). Long time ago, people most did exhaust header pipes only. Besides the intake is artificially RESTRICTED by the butterfly at the throttle. So the intake only makes a difference on WIDE OPEN THROTTLE acceleration. Good Luck... P.S. Just make sure you get intake pipes DESIGNED for your car. Otherwise they would expect you to some customizing like cutting and drilling, etc.
