- Q: I have a gateway laptop. Recently the charger seemed to not have a very good connection to the laptop. Then when I unplugged it I saw that is had some green fluid on it, I wiped it off and soon forgot about it. - Before spending money on a new gateway charger, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away. Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your gateway laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the gateway . This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your gateway laptop on. If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your gateway laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your gateway laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? - Unfortunately it sounds like your power supply may have reached the end of its days. If it appears to be working until you connect it to your laptop it means it isn't strong enough to feed your laptop anymore so to speak. Try taking your laptop to a computer shop and see if it is indeed the power supply that is faulty. That would be the best case scenario. Otherwise you're looking at an internal problem which would be much harder to remedy as it is an old laptop.
