- The cooling system (thermal compound, fan etc) of gaming laptops are usually better equipped for dealing with and dissipating the heat generated from playing games. Usually, when the laptop's generated heat reaches a certain high point due to the design and lack of capacity of the cooling system, the laptop throttle itself so it doesn't overheat and spoil the internal components. This will in turn somewhat deteriorate the performance of the laptop until the heat is dissipated. Also heat in general isn't good for electrical components, so putting the laptop under strain (when playing graphically intensive games) might wear it out faster (practically I'm not that sure though, normal laptops have also worked just fine for me, then again im more of a recreational gamer). It really depends on how often you play games and how long in one sitting. If you don't game that long during each sitting, maybe around 2 hours or more each time, then go for the normal cheaper one. If you are a hardcore gamer who games for a long period of time, then go for the gaming one. Gaming laptop usually come with a better graphics card, and sometimes a better processor, though I think most people are aware of that.
