- Laptops are specifically designed by the manufactures to specs passed down by the likes of Dell, HP, Leveno and so on. Where you can custom build a desktop with over the counter parts you are unable to do so with laptop since the parts if you come to it are custom designed and made to fit in the OEM laptop shells. That is why a motherboard from say a Dell laptop will not fix into a laptop casing for a HP and viceversa. That is why sites like Dell and HP will allow you to customize a laptop via their website.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your gateway laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the gateway . If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your gateway laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading.
