- When my son was born, we were living in a one-bedroom apartment so like it or not he was sleeping in our room. But in the end I was happy he was there right next to me -- he slept in a bassinet but would wake several times a night to breastfeed and we would often fall to sleep together in the big bed with daddy. Honestly, I've heard so much from new moms about how ragged out they get from night wakings but ours was such a easy time because my baby was so close there was never any real awake time and no fussing. When he was seven months we moved to a larger home, where he got his own bedroom. We started immediately having him sleep in his crib in his new room. At first he would wake a lot and need comforting to sleep -- and I'll be honest, when I was feeling really lazy, I'd just bring him into bed with us and we'd fall asleep together. If I happen to wake back up, I'd bring him to his room otherwise, he'd stay. But very quickly he got used to his room and would sleep through the night. Now at 2, we have very few problems with his sleeping (on rare occassions he'll wake up and come in our room -- he's got a big boy bed now so can get out himself). He sleeps through the night 90 percent of the time and I attribute it to the fact that there was never any traumatic moment of being forced to sleep somewhere he didn't want to and he is very trustful that we are there for him.

- A bed is easiest to make if it's away from the walls on both sides, but if it's on easy-roll wheels, that's not as important. I have my bed almost in the corner of a room, but far enough away from the one wall for a bed table and access to the window (opening/closing, drapes, blinds, etc.). That leaves me lots of room in the other corner for my office desk. Focus first on utility, second on appearance.

- Well made beds are always strong. Look at the bed to see how it's constructed, check the joints, and wiggle all the pieces. If they are firm, it's a decent bed. If you can't, buy it and see it when it gets there. You'll know for sure.

- Q:I dont want them climbing on a bunk bed. A trundle bed seems good but I dont know much about how safe they are. Some one mentioned a Captians bed, I dont know what that is. What do you guys think?
- The only thing with a trundle bed is that they are going to fight over which one gets which one. I don't know what a Captains bed is either. For my daughter we just got a twin box spring/mattress and just used that, that way if she falls off, it's not a long drop and she can get up onto it easily. Depending on how old your kids are, the one on the top part of the trundle bed could roll off onto the child that is on the lower part. You could get two box spring/mattresses and have them sleep on that instead of sharing a bed or something like sharing a bed. Good Luck and I hope I have helped you.
