- Q: Well I was thinking about the idea of renovating either a smaller school bus or building a tiny house and I was wondering if i can get some information on the size and watts panel should I use or more like how to get that whole solar energy in motion. Any infor and links would help
- I think that typical solar panels are 2'x4' and produce something like 800-000 wh per day. (That's 0.8 - kwh per day.) More in the summer, less in the winter, if they're aimed sort of at the sun. There are newer, more expensive panels that produce more. There are also thin film panels that are less expensive, and probably more sturdy. You then have a couple choices. In a house, you'd have an expensive inverter to connect to the utility power, so you can have power at night when your panels aren't generating anything. In a trailer, you want 2-4-6 deep cycle car batteries to store the power. Then you could have an inverter to convert that power to 20v AC, so you could use normal appliances. Or, you could buy appliances that run on 2 volts DC. Maybe a combination of both. You'll need to figure out how much power you're going to use, so you know how many panels and batteries you're going to need. The calculation is easy. Figuring out how much power you need is hard. You need deep cycle batteries because you can repeatedly charge them way up and run them way down. Ordinary batteries die fairly quickly when you do that.
- Q: I am researching several solar panels to install in my house. I would like to use a 40 watt panel to connect, through a solar battery controller, to a battery or two. I would then like to use the solar panel (40 watts) to charge the battery(ies) for emergency use. Once charged, and when needed, I would like to use the battery(ies), 2 volt deep cycle, to power several LED lamps. Since I am new to solar power I had several questions...Is a 40 watt panel strong/large enough to charge a 2 volt deep cycle battery or two?How long would it take to charge one of these batteries? What would be the expected cost to purchase necessary supplies? (With the solar panel, battery controller, and MC4 cabling I've found I have an expected cost of roughly $00.00 with batteries)Would this be difficult for someone with little experience in this field?
- Your demand is high. You require at least 5KVA (5000watts) out put with an appropriate battery storage and inverter..
- Q: How often do solar panels need to be replaced or repaired roughly? Is it costly to do so?
- Solar Panel Maintenance
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of noise pollution?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of noise pollution. Noise pollution does not affect the functionality or performance of solar panels.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on airports or transportation hubs?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on airports or transportation hubs. In fact, many airports and transportation hubs around the world have already implemented solar panel systems to generate clean and renewable energy. These installations not only help reduce the carbon footprint of these facilities but also contribute to their energy self-sufficiency and cost savings.
- Q: I've been figuring ways to keep water thawed out this winter, and this bucket seems to be the easiest thing. What kind of set up (solar panel) would I need to feed this 260 watt heated bucket?
- Unfortunately solar panels are low output, generally only 2 volt and very low amperage,so you would need to build a multi panel array with a DC-AC converter all together costing several hundred dollars which would only work during sunlight.Just roughly figuring, about $800. Plan2-Solar charger, battery bank, and DC-AC inverter so it would work 24hrs a day, also several hundred $$. Solar power does just not seem feasible(to me)in this application.By far the cheapest set up here would be an extension cord fromhouse to the bucket.260 watts per hr is a fairly lightweight draw, even not figuring the thermostat's cycling it on and off as needed.Electricity is sold in kilowatt hours(000W/hr).This bucket would use(not allowing for thermostats control lowering it)appx 6000watts or 6KW per day.Depending on your electrical cost per Kwh it would cost very little to run.(In my location appx 50cents a day) or appx the same amount as my computer(325watts total)) Note that that would be a maximum rate, and would actually be less due to thermostat cycling off and on as needed.
- Q: Are the solar panels on the roof just a gimik to get all the tree huggers to buy it, or are they actually a good, efficent design?
- The solar panels run the fan to remove hot air from the car. They do about the same amount of cooling that cracking the windows and using a heatshield over the windshield--that is they keep the interior of the car about the same as the exterior without draining the 2V battery. One problem I have with the solar panels is that they come with a moonroof. The other problem I have with them is that to get them you have to give up the additional safety features because Toyota won't put both the high tech safety features and the solar panels on the same car. So is it a good design? Well, nothing with a sun/moonroof is a good design IMHO, but that's the power of advertising for you. In that it runs a fan without draining the 2V battery, yes that part's good. Having to give up the high tech safety features to get it makes it a non-starter for me (and I live where it gets plenty hot so I could really use the fan).
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a data center or server room?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a data center or server room. By harnessing solar energy, data centers can reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources and decrease their carbon footprint. Installing solar panels not only helps in generating clean and renewable energy but can also lead to long-term cost savings by reducing electricity bills. However, the feasibility and effectiveness of solar panel installation may depend on various factors such as the availability of adequate roof space, local climate conditions, and the energy requirements of the data center.
- Q: I own a townhome in the Phoenix area (my power company's SRP, if that makes a difference). Phoenix is a great place for solar. I could probably save money, in the long term, if I got some solar panels. But I am currently extremely broke, so I can't buy solar panels unless I will more or less immediately be paying no more than I am now per month, with little or nothing down. And most of the solar leasing places won't work with me, because (as is common for townhomes) I don't technically own my roof. I have permission to put things on it, but the property management people (or whoever actually owns my roof) won't sign the lease or whatever.Anyone know of either a way to buy solar panels without paying significantly more per month than I already do for electricity, or a solar leasing company that can work with the restrictions I have?
- There are companies who would install solar panels on your roof for no cost. The catch is that they get the power generated for the first 20 years which is the useful life of the panels then you get what's left of the obsolete panels, meanwhile you're required to purchase your power from them at allegedly reduced rates but there is no guarantee that they would remain reduced versus the market once they have you locked in. It's like how the cell phone companies will give you a free cell phone if you sign a contract. Keep in mind that once you've factored in the installation costs and the useful life of the panels, the effective costs of solar photovoltaic energy is about 23 cents to 43 cents a kwh while grid power is about 5 cents per kwh to the consumer, 3 cents per kwh to the utilities for coal generation. It's just that so few people understand how to project an initial capital expense with periodic future returns through discounted cash flow, hence people think solar power is free out of ignorance. Without government incentives, there are no economic benefits to solar and most solar installers structure the sales such that they gain the economic benefit instead of the consumer who is often ignorant of how to calculate the financials.
- Q: I am planning to buy some solar panels for my cabin and i want to be able to store the electricity. what kind of batteries should i get? i will be running simple things like a tv and radio. where can i buy these batteries? where should i look for the best batteries?
- Deep cycle, Golf Cart Batteries. You can get them at a battery store.
