2.Description

Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals.Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

Physical

Aluminium is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, ductile and malleable metal with appearance ranging from silvery to dull gray, depending on the surface roughness. It is nonmagnetic and does not easily ignite. A fresh film of aluminium serves as a good reflector (approximately 92%) of visible light and an excellent reflector (as much as 98%) of medium and far infrared radiation. The yield strength of pure aluminium is 7–11 MPa, while aluminium alloys have yield strengths ranging from 200 MPa to 600 MPa.Aluminium has about one-third the density and stiffness of steel. It is easily machined, cast, drawn and extruded.

Q: I have a thick piece of aluminum and it is really dullI want to make it into a mirror almost! How can I do that using mainly sandpapers? Can I do it at all? I heard using sandpaper in the order of like 200 600 1000 2000 grit works, is that true?
Sand paper will scratch the surfaceYou need a big powerful electric hand grinder with a buffing wheel and polishing rouge also known as jewelers rougeStart with medium rouge and then fine rougeAfter initially getting it polished to a mirror finish, you can keep it that way with Never Dull aluminum polish or Mothers Aluminum polish.
Q: HiWil be more appropriated if a use a metal cylinder to make a flying rocket?
In aviation, the goal is strong but, lightweightSo, factors to consider are: Altitude, thrust, and durabilityI would recommend a piece of thin wall aluminum tubingNow if you want really light and strong, try a composite with a resin binder like Burt Rutan's Spaceship one used.
Q: chemistry
It's cheap, durable, easy to work with and to cast into different shapes, and it's a metal, so it will conduct heat well Follow up Aluminum isn't exactly corrosion freeIn fact, every surface of aluminum is covered by a protective layer of aluminum oxideA fresh surface of aluminum will be covered by a layer of Al2O3 almost instantaneouslyThe oxidation of the surface is so complete that it prevents further oxidation.
Q: 1 13 14 27
Don't over cook themWrap them in tinfoil to make pockets, add some slices of potato, carrot, onion slicesBake or toss on the grill (medium high) for about 15 minutes per sideI think the ham and bacon will season it very wellDon't add any more salt, there will be enough in the ham and bacon.
Q: my moms caring for this lady and just called me and ask me to find her a recipie for bonless skinless chicken thighs anyone have any good easy ideas thanks to all!!!!
Put the chicken in a pan and coat it in olive oil or butter (up to you for calories) then salt and pepper and chopped garlicThen cover the chicken in (jarred) Apricot preserves then bake in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes covered with aluminum foil, then about 10 more mins without the foil.
Q: what are some examples of iron, copper, aluminum, nickel, and carbon?
Homemade Cupcake Liners
Q: do you have to put aluminum foil on a baking sheet for the oven?
No, but if it isn't an insulated baking sheet, foil will go a long way in preventing burning on the bottom(As in cookies for exampleOr anything else, for that matter)You DO want to put oil or cooking spray on the foil, thoughNothing is more distressing than finding little bits of foil attached to one's food.
