- Q: why does the power company use helicopters to service the repair lines instead of trucks with tall cranes?
- High-tension lines operate at hundreds of thousands, or millions, of volts. At this potential, electricity can jump through several feet of air to reach a path to ground. This pretty much rules out using trucks, because it would be prohibitively expensive or impossible to build a crane out of entirely non-conductive materials. A helicopter is electrically isolated from the ground, so it's less difficult to drop a technician off and let him hang from the line itself while working. (It is still necessary for the technician to use a wand to bring the helicopter to the line's potential before starting work, because of the capacitance of the helicopter's body.) They could of course use a truck to service the lines if the power was disconnected, but the cost of shutting down service to an entire region of the country exceeds the operating cost of a helicopter.
- Q: the cable of Crane I creates and angle of 30 degree angle from the horizontal and the cable of Crane II creates an angle of 45 degrees from the horizontal.-draw a figure that gives a visual representation of the problem-write a vector to represent the tension on the cable of Crane I-write a vector to represent the tension on the cable of Crane II-write a vector to represent the 20000 lb cargo container being lifted -calculate the tension on both cables. Justify your answer.....please help me!!! thank you!!!!:)

- Q: I have to create a crane to support a dead load for my Engineering Technology class. It can be made out of only 1/8 inch balsa wood and wood glue, and is going to be graded by the ration of weight held to structure weight.Could anybody give me some suggestions as to how to go about designing this thing? I already know most of the basics, but if anybody could give me some specific tips, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- Not enough information because a crane can be many shapes and have various forms of anchoring or counterbalancing the load. If you are not allowed to anchor to a base and can't use weight to counter the load (if all balsa) then you have to create legs and lift the load between them - Basically the design will need to be triangles in truss to take the compression and prevent twisting and a long upper piece in tension to act like the cable you don't have. I would make two legs that are each 3 sided trusses that meet at the top and have a single rod across the bottom to keep them from spreading. Then I would make a longish beam with flat triangles for stiffness and use a few uprights to position the tension rod. Hang the weight on one end and push down on the other so it pivots on the short legs.
- Q: Romney woulda had that thing fixed by now.
- It never ceases to amaze me. As Americans we scream and cry about the deficit and wonder why our president has not sent a work crew to fix a crane in NYC. These very same Americans suggest that our President is leaving the broken crane in New York to remind people of the atrocities done to the black Americans in our country. Really, nothing surprises me anymore.
- Q: What does "slewing up" and "under rotating" in the slewing form of a tower crane mean?
- As for the reasons, the main consideration is the actual needs.
- Q: I know that the whooping crane population recovered through captive breeding but how many are left currently (right now).
- There were 535 total in 2009--the population increased slightly last year but I have not seen a total for the population of 2010. Deaths can occur at any time so the number changes constantly. The Journey North site counts 281 adults in the wild western population and 106 birds in the reintroduced eastern flock. They did not give a number for the birds in captivity so I cannot give you a total. You can follow the reintroduced whooping crane population and their migration each spring and fall on the Journey North (in fall called Journey South site). They also track song birds and hummingbirds and monach butterflies.
- Q: I'm 17 and I was planning on reading it for class, do you think it will be easy to read?
- Stephen Crane, Maggie is fantastic! I read it in school when I was 14 so I have no doubt you will have no problems in reading it. Maggie is the tale of an inevitable fall from grace on the part of a young, innocent girl trapped in the vicious world of New York City's slums. Yearning for acceptance and love, beaten at home by alcoholic parents, Maggie sets out with Pete, a local bartender whose cultured mannerisms elicit great respect from the impressionable young girl. However, when Pete spurns her for another, Maggie is ejected out onto the street, forced into prostitution to make a living. We last see her moving off, a huge, oily fat man in tow, for a darkened corner in the city's seedy underworld. If Upton Sinclair's The Jungle is a torrent of social anger and protest, Crane's Maggie is like a brilliant lightning strike, flashing across our vision and leaving us temporarily blinded. The book--scarcely 70 pages--is succint, brutish, and merciless. Crane allows his readers to form their own opinions regarding the characters. His innovative use of near-phonetic spelling to depict in the reader's ear the local dialect of New York's rough neighborhoods was shocking and difficult to comprehend when the book was first released. It lends Maggie an air of earthy legitimacy. Ultimately, Maggie is a cry for the plight of poor children--the souls we overlook with a callous unease mirrored in Pete's offhand, uncaring rejection of young Maggie's genuine love and affection. It is, without qualification, Stephen Crane's greatest and most moving achievement.
- Q: Is the pink paper crane used to represent Lulu?
- i really dont know what i can say to that so ill just shut up
- Q: What is the allowable range of vertical deviation for tower cranes?
- The specified installation, construction, demolition of tower crane safety technical regulations in JGJ196--2010: the allowable deviation of verticality Tower: in the wind under no-load, the tower axis line should be less than 4 per thousand of the bearing surfaces of the lateral vertical deviation; after the attachment, the highest attachment point following the vertical deviation should be less than 2 per thousand. According to the installation state of tower crane, the deviation range of verticality is divided into 4/1000 or 2/1000. Tower crane maximum independent installation height (maximum installation height, does not need to be attached to the wall of the instructions specified in the free end) and height (the highest point of a tower crane attached to the wall above the height, body the following provisions in the specification of tower crane slewing) the vertical deviation range was 4/1000; tower crane attachment verticality deviation below the allowable range is 2/1000.
