Q: i want to go off grid with solar panels but i need to know how many vots and watts i need to power my house
you must consider what electrical appliances you want to use, eg. do you have an electric stove? clothes dryer? air conditioner? heater? watts are watts, solar panels are used to create d.c. electricity which is stored in batteries then inverted to a.c. household electricity the d.c. batteries are usually 36 to 48 volts then this is converted to 20 volt a.c. when you figure out the watts being consumed in your household you size your batteries and inverter to these requirements. on your current electric bill you should see a charge for kwh, kilowatt hours= watts in thousands x hours. If you use 25 kwh per month your house is using 35 watts per hour x 720 hours in a month. you would then want sol.ar panels that charge at least 70 watts per hour because roughly half of the day it's dark depending on where you live December is even less of course in the northern hemisphere. Your batteries need to have capacity to hold a days worth of power, batteries are rated in amp hours, amp hours x volts = watt hours. I hope this points you in the right direction. All of this being said be sure to buy your system from a reputable dealer, someone with experience and good references. I am an electrician and have seen systems put in that are completely worthless because they were not sized properly and It sucks to see that someone paid $30k or more for something that is completely useless, it sucks even more when they ask me to help them and I say pay another $30k to up size the system to what they need. Remember you don't get anything for nothing so be prepared to spend money initially and be prepared to be live very energy conscious in your day to day life. Good luck
Q: What do I need to use this as a battery charger
I hope this will help you choose your charge controller / battery charger more effectively. Good luck!
Q: What are the benefits of using solar panels?
There are several benefits of using solar panels. Firstly, solar panels generate renewable and clean energy by harnessing the power of the sun, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, solar panels can help to save money on electricity bills, as they generate free electricity once installed. They also require minimal maintenance and have a long lifespan, providing a reliable source of energy for years to come. Moreover, solar panels can increase the value of a property and contribute to energy independence, especially in remote or off-grid areas. Overall, the use of solar panels promotes sustainability, cost savings, and a cleaner environment.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on residential complexes or apartment buildings?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on residential complexes or apartment buildings. Many residential complexes and apartment buildings have successfully installed solar panels to generate clean and renewable energy for their residents. This not only helps in reducing electricity bills but also contributes to a greener and more sustainable environment.
Q: Can anyone give me a link to a website that sells really big solar panels? Enough to run a small cafe on entirely solar power.
I think you may be surprised how much energy a little cafe like that uses. Since the air conditioning, refrigerators, and other appliances are going nonstop, I'd expect the energy usage to be several times that of a normal house. If you have access to the electric bills of the cafe while it was in operation, look up the kWh's used per month. For scale, I will say that our house uses 500 kWh per month, and needs 3 kW of panels to keep up with that. Scale up to match the restaurant, as a ballpark estimate. If you don't have access to the electric bills, then go visit a similar cafe in town, or a nearby town, and ask them how much their electric bill is. If the ballpark estimate still looks doable to you, then contact a professional solar installer to get an accurate, no-obligation estimate. Most likely, the cafe will use gas heat for cooking. But if not, electricity from solar panels is probably the most inefficient way to cook. Consider having solar ovens for most of the cooking, if you have land, with gas as a backup on cloudy days.
Q: I'm looking to mount a solar panel to the top of my 2003 Pontiac Montana and was wondering how i could do it without any screws? Magnets maybe?
Build okorder /
Q: I'm part of the Sustainability group at school, the school principal is a d**k and doesn't care about the environment, he only cares about money.Me and the group will be talking in front of him and the school council (the people in-charge of the school's money) To convince them to put solar panels on the school roofs.I know that it definitely will help the school save on electricity bills, but it WILL cost a lot of money to put them in.In the end we just wanna reduce carbon emissions!HELP :)
When okorder / Good luck but the best way to win is to find a way to get it done and then they can't say no.
Q: I have a home made 24 volt electric cart. It is powered by two 2Volt deep cycle batteries. Since the motor runs on 24 volts the batteries are wired in series to produce the 24 volts. I only have a 2 volt battery charger, but I also have two 2 volt solar panels. It is a pain having to unhook wires, rewire it, or charge them one at the time.HERE IS THE QUESTION REALLY... Can I wire the two 2 volt solar panels together in series (ie: negative to positive) then connect it to the existing 24 volt system and have it charge the batteries fine. I know basic wiring, but I know nearly nothing about solar panels, will it work fine? will it cause them to break? or short out?(additional info, the solar panels are only rated at 5 amps so it will not overcharge the batteries or anything)
Wiring the panels in series should be ok as long as they are exactly the same. Different impedance's could damage the panels. Remember that Voltages and Amperage's are indirectly proportional meaning that if you series your panels your voltage will rise but the amperage will be reduced.
Q: Is it possible for a 2V rated panel to charge a bank of batteries equal to around 36V? I believe that the panels should equal or exceed the voltage of the batteries but, I'm not for certain.
With a 2 volt power source (solar panel, battery charger, vehicle charging system, etc...) you can charge three 2 volt batteries in parallel circuits then switch to a series circuit through a series/parallel switch to get 36 volts output. I've done this with my electric scooter so I can charge it with my pickup through the lighter socket when I'm away from home. It works great! When at home I just leave the switch in the 36 volt position, plug the charger in the wall receptacle and the charger puts out 36 volts. Actually 2 volt lead acid batteries have 2.6 volts when fully charged so the charging source has an output of 3.6 to 4.2 volts to effect a complete charge. In the series circuit the fully charged batteries would put out 37.8 volts so the charger would have an output of 40.8 to 42.6 volts.
Q: Can solar panels be used for charging electric scooters?
Yes, solar panels can be used for charging electric scooters. By connecting the electric scooter to a solar panel system, the sunlight energy is converted into electricity, which charges the scooter's battery. This eco-friendly and sustainable method of charging can reduce reliance on grid electricity and promote renewable energy usage.
