- You do not want to do this for two reasons. One is that it will take away all the protection from the tile that allows the tile itself to be water proof and stain proof. Take away the glaze and the tile will stain. The second reason is that the glaze provides most of the tile body strength. A couple of things to help prevent tiles from being slick.. Remove all wet shoes and keep the floor dry. Hard with kids I know. Anti slip area rugs helps. And lastly there are products that you can use in the mop water that helps the tiles from being slick. - Q: I went and removed 3 ft of tiles from the side of the bath tub starting at the bottom. The tiles had the cement on it so it came off the wall exposing the wood the to the house and i saw the water damage to the wood. How do i patch up the wall? Do I use plywood and than cement it and than add the new tiles?
- If I understand the problem correctly, it sounds like you have water damage inside you wall. You first need to find out what caused that damage. If you repair the wall without finding the water leak, it will happen again. If the area was dry rot and it didn't sem like there was currently water there, then it is likely safe to fix. Carefully remove tiles until you no longer see any water damage to the wood. I'm not sure what wood is there. If its plywood, replace it with a like thickness (most of the time today, they use drywall, but its a special kind that is usually green that's made for bathrooms and moist areas). Before replacing the tiles, clean them up and remove any old grout from the edges. Be careful as the tile are very brittle and break easy. There are a number of bathroom tile type caulks that can adhere the tile to the wood. I suggest going to somewhere like Lowe's or Home Depot or a similar store and ask someone in the plumbing dept or the paint dept what kind of caulk to use to attach tile to wood. Apply the tile to the wall using the caulk. Now you need to re-grout the seams. Buy grout and apply it in all the seams. Let it completely dry (read the box but most say at least 24 to 48 hrs to completely cure) then after its cured, apply grout sealer over the top of the grout seams.

- If you are not totally convinced that you want ceramic tile take a look at a flooring called Traffic Master. Last spring we put it in 2 of our bathrooms and it looks great! It is 3 or 4 times thicker than normal vinyl and very durable and quite inexpensive comparatively to tile or other flooring. It comes in 1 foot by 3 foot sections, and is a peel and stick tongue and groove type of installation. You may be set on tile, but do yourself a favor and check it out at Home Depot before you decide. And as an added bonus, you won't need to add the toilet extension but I highly recommend that do put in a new wax ring. Good luck!

- If the laminate isn't peeling you can tile right over that. Sand with coarse sandpaper....clean with TSP.....prime with oil-based kilz-it. Let that dry and start tiling. Don't use a premixed adhesive and grout all in one. It won't stand up to the moisture. Get the correct thinset for the tiles you will be using.

- If the existing tile is sound and not loose you can tile over it. You must use modified thin set motar adhesive. The only way to remove tile is to beat it off. Since (as you say) is is directly on wood you may get lucky and the bond is not tight. If this is the case you may get it off using a shovel to scrape and pry. If not safety glasses long sleeves, a hammer and chisel are the way to go.
