Q: we have about 500 sq feet of tile in our house and want to put carpet over it. the tile is not finished in the hallway tho, does that matter? and do you know an approximate cost for ripping the tile out? like $1,000+? $2,000+?thank you!
Yes it can be done if the tile is secure and not a beveled edged tile. Tack strips can be glued and screwed into the tile like a cement floor. The unfinished part will have to be filled in or at least brought up to be flush with the unfinished tile ( a few ways to do that.) To rip out tile , which is a labor intense job, I used to charge 2$ a s/f If you mean vinyl tile , all you need to do is treat the edges with a filler and lay carpet over it. Get some estimates and you can see what you want to do So you can get bids to have some one do it, do it yourself of fill in the last area. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar .. GL
Q: I heard that ceramic tiles absorb water and we have ceramic tile in the downstairs bedroom. After I wash the tile floor how long do I wait until I can move our dressers and furniture back on the tile? Because once I bring in the dressers I don‘t think the tiles will have a chance to dry because it is fully covered by the dressers, right?

Q: We have cement tiles in our apartment. To wash them, I just use liquid soap and water; I don‘t want to use toxic products. The tiles are dull-looking, though. How do I get them to shine?
This is a great homemade tile and grout cleaner that is safe for frequent use. It also works well for removing soap scum and cleaning tile counters. 1/2 cup of baking soda 1/3 cup of ammonia 1/4 cup of white vinegar 7 cups of water subtract Combine all the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well to mix. Do not use this in conjunction with chlorine bleach or where chlorine bleach has been used. (Never mix ammonia and bleach containing products.) Simply spray it on and then wipe with a damp sponge or cloth. No rinsing required.
Q: I am thinking of doing a school based apprenticeship in tiling how much money will I get? and how long is the apprenticeship last for my m said around 4 years?
First of all I applaud your thinking of doing an apprenticeship. A tiler once told me that all you need to know about tiling is 'one on top of another, shiny side out' ! If in UK check out your local F.E. College which usually run a full range of courses in the various building trades. If you want an apprenticeship rather than a stand alone course, why not contact a reputable local builder who may take you on and train you on the job together with a college course. Good luck.
Q: How do you use tiles? I‘m sure it‘s easy, but I don‘t know how to use them yet. They look pretty complex. Thanks. I appreciate it.
it isn't really as easy as you'd think. 1. create a background 2.make sure to check the box labeled Use as tile set 3.open up the room you want the tiles to appear in 4.there should be some tabs below the upper left corner 5.click on Tiles 6.under the big gray blank space(wich is just below the tabs) there should be a place to select the tile you want to use 7.after selecting the tile the gray empty space should show the tile. 8.click in the room on the spot you want the tile. remember, tiles are basicly drawings. so objects sometimes go over or under them. experiment with the layers to solve this :)
Q: I am planning on laying down tile in my dining room and kitchen. I recently saw an offset pattern with 12x12 tiles and liked it. I‘ve now decided to go with the same offset pattern but with 20x20 ceramic tiles. Would I still have to find the center of the room and start tiling out from the center or can I just start at one wall and go from there since i‘ll be using the offset pattern? Thanks in advance.
Not always so with an off set pattern....Because when you start from center on a normal square pattern and you end up w/ a small cut along the wall, you can re center the tile in the room to get a better cut along the wall. Doing this to an off set pattern , won t change that small cut on 1/2 the rows.. It all depends on room lay out and your site lines.. That I can t answer you. Now if you start in the center and do get a good lay out on both sides, then by all means, center the tile.. If you have a long site line on one wall, which is very visible, and cabinets or something different on the opposite wall to break up the pattern, Then you may consider going off that wall w/ a 1/2 tile along that wall.. I m not there to see it but I m good at visual lay outs. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
Q: → tile background wall is good tiles background wall renderings
The integrated wall consists of four layers of material: 1. Aluminum foil, because the product can be installed directly on the wall of the rough housing, in order to strengthen the corrosion resistance of the product designed to greatly enhance the service life of the product. 2. Polyurethane, the use of polyurethane in the wall panel, is to enhance the product on the actual home improvement process of applicability, which enhance the wall to noise, heat insulation, moisture and other phenomena; Similarly, the polyurethane products to fill, strengthen the product Can impact. 3. Aluminum, the basic definition of the actual shape of the product. 4. Film, define the color of the product and the actual installation effect. The product can be defined as: rapid installation of materials, environmentally friendly materials, fashion decorative materials. Integrated wall is a new type of decorative wall materials, the market is highly ductile, compared to the market can replace part of the wall processing materials: paint, wallpaper, tiles; in the artificial can be canceled: paint workers, mud workers, etc. Need to carpentry operation, the process can generally be equipped with 2-3 people can, home improvement is generally completed in a week. Q: I will be making a 36 x 36 hearthboard for my gas fireplace stove out of slate tile. Do I need to space them and use grout in between or can I just cement them down next to each other like you would glue down vinyl tiles?
With a gas stove, Code just requires you don't set it on something combustible. With joints of any kind it is considered combustable since heat can travel through the grout/mortar but wont travel through the tile, so if your going to make it your self, the easiest way is to buy a piece of Cement board from HomeDepot, and glue all your tiles down with Power Grab caulk then fill the joints with grout, other wise it is not code. Just sticking them to the floor does not qualify and if anything ever happens your liable for it, insurance wont cover it. This kind of board won't work for wood though, it would have to be heavier duty. Make sure you make it big enough to meet the clearance to combustibles listed on the back of the stove as well
Q: Renovation of the new house is good with tiles or wooden floor ah? Which of the two are you expensive?
Practicality: 1. Whether the family will often have access to the guests, or whether the family wear slippers habits, after all, relatively contrast with the floor tile and wear and cleaning. 2. Whether there will be a very tide of the year, no matter what the wooden floor, tidal weight will be deformed or corroded, but the degree of different, but if the tile is not anti-skid but also consider whether the elderly or children at home, easy to wrestling. 3. Indoor light how strong, light can be considered non-reflective wood flooring, light can be considered weak color tiles. Decorative: Combined with the living room in the walls, ceiling, furniture overall consideration. Such as wall wood structure is more, and are wood-style paste, or furniture style classical, that with the wood floor will see some of the harmony. If it is hard line style, or color to black and white, can be considered with tiles, etc., I will give an example.
