And I think the reason people hate Heavy Metal is based on a few factors: Firstly, because of modern metal bands have adapted screamo and depressing emo-like images, many seem to assume that that is all it is. When in fact they'd think differently if they'd check older (and quite frankly, better) bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Megadeth. And there's the second point, because those bands are older most will ignore it, see in the 70's and 80's Metal, Hard Rock, and Punk were popular among youth culture, where today 80% of youth culture are into Dupstep, Pop, Contemporary R 'n B and general chart stuff. A lot of people hate the way that some metal bands aren't afraid of telling people how it is, and being cynical. See most of society likes to live in fairy tales, Metal includes so much realism. It's quite funny seeing as metal has continued to be consistently working where certain types of music are popular for only a decade or so and they they fade away.

Q: Are they still metal?: I'd have probably included a subgenre even ffuffier than heavy metal, I'd call it Melodic Metal and include bands such as Impelliteri, TNT, Takara, Jeff Scott Soto, Jorn Lande. I personally think Power Metal deserves its own genre just because of the scope of it. There are so many bands that fall within that group like Blind Guardian, Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Iced Earth. Scott definately knows his metal though and can't disagree with his assessment of the subgenres of metal.

When they are not they create magnetism. Iron has 3 unpaired electrons and demostrates tahe greatest magnetism. cobalt and nickle also demonstrate some magnetism. Also, some of the rare earths and some alloys such as Alnico and steel. RECENTLY, several papers have been published on the use of polarized light for revealing the grain structure of metals and alloys. Hone and Pearson1 showed that by examining under polarized light a polished aluminium surface which had been anodized in a suitable electrolyte, the grain structure was revealed, differently oriented grains appearing with different brightnesses. Woodward2, by etching 'Monel' metal in a specific reagent, has found similar effects. Polished surfaces of aluminium and 'Monel' metal, being optically isotropic, do not react to polarized light as do the optically anisotropic surfaces of tin, zinc, cadmium, etc., and the above authors1,2 have attributed the optical anisotropy of the anodized aluminium and etched 'Monel' metal to the anisotropic properties of the surface film formed during anodizing or etching. Although this explanation may be correct, there is a possible alternative which involves the surface contour of the specimen, for it is well known that if pearlite is examined under polarized light no reaction occurs unless the specimen is etched. This has been shown convincingly by Baeyertz3 to be due to the presence of fine parallel grooves on the surface, formed by etching away the ferrite and leaving the cementite lamell? in relief. Furthermore, Jones4 has shown that polarization effects can be produced by deeply etching a metal surface.
