Q: also what time do bearded dragons lay eggs in the year
We use the type of styrofoam box in which fish are delivered to aquarium stores and place a thermostatically controlled heat mat at the bottom, with plastic dishes containing damp vermiculite (and the eggs) on a wire rack supported about a third of the way up the box (resting on a couple of half house-bricks!) The boxes we use are the size described here: www.aquamania .uk/product.asp?P. and we make a couple of air holes in the top, and another couple in the sides. We use a humidity sensor to ensure that the levels are appropriate for the type of eggs we're incubating (adding sponge-filled dishes of water will increase the humidity - while increasing number of vents will decrease it) and we also have a long glass thermometer pushed through the lid, with the bulb positioned to give a second visual monitor of the temperature at the same level as the eggs (the first being the temperature controller we use for the on-off control of the heat mat, as that has a digital display and alarm functionality.)
Q: Ok so 2 days ago my 3 year old bearded dragon laid her first clutch, and yes she was with a male. Right away i went to the pet store and bought supplies. They are in a plastic storage container with moist sand and moss. I have the temperature at 83 degrees about and humidity around 75%. So far 3 eggs collasped in and i read that means they are not fetile so i threw them away. The other eggs have big yellow spots on them and on the bottom they have a reddish purplish spot, is this normal? I just wanna make sure im doing everything right. Thanks
Vermiculite or pearlite if you are in a bind and need it right away. I'll link another alternative for you below in sources if you want something that is specifically for eggs. It is a nice mixture that a local breeder here in Ohio came up with, and it seems to be pretty good stuff. It is called HatchRite. I would avoid wood type substrates, they are not in the best interest of your eggs. Vermiculite, pearlite, and hatch rite will all also help keep your humidity where it needs to be for the eggs, which is extremely important.
Q: i am attempting to grow my own edible mushrooms (much cheaper than the grocery store!) and the mushroom quot;cakequot; calls for 2 parts vermiculite, 1 part brown rice flour, and 1 part water to be mixed together in a bowl.... how would i do this? i am using a quarter pint jar... how would i know how much to mix if i were using a pint jar or half pint jar with a 2:1:1 ratio?thanks!
I can answer your question, but can't tell you anything about Venus Fly Traps (other than hard to grow and keep alive.) Vermiculite and perlite are different types of rocks that can be heated and pop like popcorn, producing what we see - light-weight pebbles. Because of that, although, technically they're different rocks, they serve the same purpose. If you can't find one, it's fine to use the other.
Q: its about paint
Ummmmm, I work in the paint industry, you need a smooth surface to begin with to get a smooth finish. If you have a textured paint or a texture finish (like vermiculite or render) then youwon't be able to get a smooth finish without stripping off the surface first, troweling over the rough surface with plaster or render to smooth it out or sand the surface smooth before applying a sealer/undercoat then 2 top coats as a minimum. Brushes and rollers leave marks on a wall or ceiling for various reasons, mostly the paint is too thick, the brush is too old or won't hold paint correctly, sanding down between coats can help with the final result, watch for streaks and runs in the paint, build up several thin coats instead of a few thich coats and your finish will be much better. Good luck.
Q: Not sure how long they‘ve been in there. She burried them quite well. My son was cleaning the cage and found them. Just wondering if there‘s even a chance of hatching. We‘ve had her for nearly a month now.she‘s been kept alone and we were told it was malelol
If you turned them, then they could be dead. Unlike bird eggs, reptile eggs cannot be rotated or they will die. There is no way to tell if they are alive. You can try incubating them. Get a small plastic container, fill it half way with vermiculite (available at garder department of many department stores or nurseries), and add distilled water or bottled drinking water until it is moist. Do not use tap water. Create a small depression on the vermiculate and put the eggs there. The depression will keep the egg from rotating. Put the cover on the plastic container and keep it on to keep out flies or ants. Keep the container at a rather constant 80-85 degrees. If the egg shell dents, then it needs more water. Add a little more water. One way to construct an incubation chamber is to fill half an aquarium with water, and keep it warm with a thermostatically controlled underwater heater and then float the egg container on the water. The eggs of many reptiles take about 2-3 months to hatch after being laid. Keep an eye on the eggs. If it starts to rot then it is dead. If it is dented again, add some more distilled or bottled drinking water.
Q: It is non-metallic, contains iron and magnesium, when heated it swells and expands into light worm-like pieces of vermiculite which is used as a medium for planting seeds. Thanks!
I have a friend of mine just grows them inbetween paper towels, every layer is more seeds, when he wants them or they are ready he pulls out a wad of damp paper towels from this plastic container scoops out his micros, throws more seed in those paper towels or new ones and into another tray it goes with a spritz of hydrogen peroxide, he never seems to be out and they are fresh and clean.
Q: I have encountered several dust patches around my warehouse. They are right under holes in the cinder block wall. I didn't know what it was from until i put some holes in the wall and found that this brown dust was inside the blocks. My guess is some type of insulation. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is? Also this warehouse is part of a school. Is it harmful in any way to humans? Thanks for any help you can give me.
no wash it.vermiculite is a natural earth mineral
Q: I have a tomato plant that is flourishing...perhaps too well...my questions is ..can I create new plant from trimmings from my original one?I am in Southern Cal
Any garden centre or nursery will stock these.
Q: I switched to FertiLome but now I‘m discovering gnats in it. Repotting my house plants and there seems to be no way to be rid of the bugs. What would you recommend?
Hi, The gnats are not from the soil, they are from your existing bugs that are reproducing, it should all pass go away. If your house plants are in saucers/trays make sure that you empty out all the standing water. Try to let the house plants dry out a little bit between watering. Not always moist, not bone-dry either. Could be fruit flies, check your fruit bowls, trash areas and outside fruit trees for spoiled fruit. Let me know? :)
Q: I am looking for an easy Hypertufa recipe to make bird baths and such.
Don't listen the cashier. Don't add anything to the water. Cats are smart. They like plain water and it keeps the kidneys functioning normally.
