- Find the right sized bed first of all...too big and he has plenty of room for chewing on it and too small and he will be too uncomfortable to use it. After you find that send the bed and a couple of dryer sheets through the dryer for a few minutes-the sheet won't transfer any of the actual chemical onto the bed but it will leave the scent and he shouldn't want to chew the bed. Another thing you can try is to spray the bed with a mixture of eucalyptus oil and water--2-3 drops oil to 2 cups water-it will have just enough smell and slight taste that he won't want to chew it (that worked wonders for my Great Dane and her mattress).

- What we did is:We would wait for our daughter to climb into bed, and then we started to push her around. Everytime she got comfortable somebody moved and she started complaining. We said thats why kids have their own bed so they dont get squashed by the grown ups. And when we went to bed and she was already asleep in it, we would do the same until she woke up. One evening when we went to bed and started pushing her around, she got up and went to her bed and fell asleep right away. I quess after a few nights of uneasy sleep made her see the light - the night light that is. Good Luck

- You cannot know for certain without knowing what kind of elasticity the bed has. - Apparently not totally necessary, but I think a wedge of straw or some woodshavings would be warmer and encourage some shyer horses to lie down and to have a pee. It is true that you would need far less than you need without the rubber matting. I have never seen rubber matting, but I am sure that a little would help the horse relax.
