- Q: I have a t-mobile cell phone and since I returned home from vacation Sunday, I have noticed that my phone now says ATT as its service, not 'T-mobile.' I haven't done anything to my phone, and have no idea why this is happening! A few of my friends who live next door also have T-mobile and have the same thing happening. What's even more odd is we have far better service now (even though ATT has horrible service in this area- New York's Hudson Valley).Any idea as to why this is may be occurring?
- It just means you're connecting to an ATT tower instead of to a T-Mobile one. Sometimes that happens because there's an issue with the T-Mobile tower and your phone can't connect to it. (Like if they're working on it right then or it's just busted, which seems to happen often.) If it's giving you better service, that's awesome, so don't bother to ask T-Mobile to put you back on their towers (tech support can do that I think). Roaming on other towers is included on T-Mobile so it's not going to affect your bill at all.

- I think you can take your own mobile phone and purchase a SIM card there. At least you can do that in Asia.

- As with all pieces of technology, Mobile Phones cannot be considered dangerous just by itself. Mobile phones CAN be dangerous - that is, if used erroneously. It can be beneficial because of its portability. It's a communication device you can use to send messages to someone and call those people away from your current location. Apart from its typical functions, most PDA/Smartphones can be used to access the internet through Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) or a network-based access point (like 3G and HSPA). It simply solutions the communication needs of businesspeople and the common mass (consumers). Though the benefits are great, it can still be used for other, more dangerous things. Take for example an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). If someone rigs a set of explosives, a fuse and a mobile phone, he or she got him/herself an IED that he/she can trigger remotely with a cellphone. Also, on a lighter but related note, most modern PDA/Smartphones (like the Nokia N95, etc.) have GPS capabilities. That means, if the unlikely chance of some virus gets installed in your PDA/Smartphone, then a hacker can easily track where you are as long as you have an eye-to-sky (direct contact with the sky) GPS connection. Added to everything, a cellphone can be dangerous if one does not know how to mask information. Imagine a child answering a cellphone call from an unknown person and giving his or her address to the stranger.

- I don't think banning use of mobile phones in vehicles is the answer.Making sure that you use hands free devices and or speaker phone is a better solution. Most accidents happen when people aren't paying attention whether talking on the phone, looking down to change the channel or CD on the radio, eating, doing makeup, changing inside the car, taking care of the crying baby in the back seat. I fully agree that they should have hands free devices in every car or hell now days you can have a phone built into your car and buy minutes for it. It is a proven fact that having a cell up to your ear when driving affects you like you were drunk. With a hands free device it is just like talking to a passenger.

- T-mobile shouldn't charge to get your phone unlocked. There are generally specific criteria that need to be met on your account before they will, such as being finished your contract etc (unless you purchased your phone at full retail price - which will require proof of purchase). There are some programs you can purchase on OKorder/stores that range from $10-$50 to have your phone unlocked. My suggestion is to call t-mobile and find out their policy on unlocking their handsets. Legally, they cannot refuse you an unlock code if you are finished your contract etc.

- Q: I am thinking about purchasing an unlocked Palm which runs on Windows Mobile. I don't think it comes with AIM. I guess I would download it from the website. My question is, if I do -- will AIM then run in the background when my phone is on standby/off or will I only receive messages when my phone is active?
- If your phone is on standby and you're logged in, you will be alerted. If your phone is fully powered off, you will not (unless you tweak the settings around to allow the application to turn on your phone). You can customize a lot on the Windows Mobile phones just depends on how much time you have to learn the steps and procedures to make it work the way you want it to.
