- Q: I am planning to do a warrior run in October, and I am thinking about getting a Spartan outfit and a shield. I want (at least) the weight of the shield to be authentic. I've read that the shields were 36 in diameter and 30 pounds, can anyone confirm this? To me, it seems like the shields would have been heavier than that. From what I understand, they were constructed of a few layers of hard wood covered with a thick layer of leather covered with a bronze shell. That sounds pretty heavy, especially considering how large they were.
- Typical better idea from Ford. You should be able to buy a PVC tee from an auto parts store and reuse those hoses with some clamps. I see where the hose to the firewall is just a short piece. I'd replace that if you use the PVC tee. That way, there won't be a short hose problem. Be VERY careful with that metal tube going to the firewall. It attaches to the heater core, and you don't want to damage the connection. Remove that clamp and cut the hose lengthwise with a razor blade to peel it off. That way, you don't have to yank on it. The new hose should be pliable enough to slide right on. It's the hose that runs from the pump to the firewall and engine. No real name for it. An auto parts store may have that, but it also could be a dealer only item.

- Half face, has a plastic shield or nothing covering your face. Some recent test's (and a lost buddy) have shown that full face helmets can cuase the neck strap to break your neck like a hng mans noose if you land on the chin. Flip-ups, are like a full face, except the whole face flips up allowing you easier access to the strap and your mouth, plus the visor goes up. Full face, just the visor moves, less moving parts. I guess it's up to personal preferences. Try them all out and see what you like. The flip-ups provide the best of all three worlds, as some of them have removable face plates.

- I'll ignore the fear people have at the mere mention of radiation and consider the practical aspects of the idea. One problem I see is there is no way to turn off the heat. I guess you could have the heater outside and only pipe the hot water into the house when you wanted it. But I see a safety problem. What if you don't remove the heat from the strontium 90? What if the heat exchanger fails. Especially if it fails on a summer day when you are not piping the heat into your house and are not paying any attention to it. - Well, you have to have the detectors to be in compliance with the fire/safety code. However, there's several different types of smoke detectors. Most of which would be ok, it's the optical type that you have to worry about. Any type of vapor will set them off. Your best bet is to replace the current detectors with those that will not be affected by a fog machine.

- In response to the things screwed into your pipes, those are probably baffles. If you take them out the bike will become louder but it might also break the noise restrictions in your area. My bike does not have baffles and I have never been stopped, but maybe I'm lucky.
