Aluminium foil (or aluminum foil) is aluminium prepared in thin metal leaves with a thickness less than 0.2 millimetres (8 mils); thinner gauges down to 6 micrometres (0.24 mils) are also commonly used.In the United States, foils are commonly gauged in thousandths of an inch or mils. Standard household foil is typically 0.016 mm (0.63 mils) thick, and heavy duty household foil is typically 0.024 mm (0.94 mils). Thefoil is pliable, and can be readily bent or wrapped around objects. Thin foils are fragile and are sometimeslaminated to other materials such as plastics or paper to make them more useful. Aluminium foil supplantedtin foil in the mid 20th century.

Annual production of aluminium foil was approximately 800,000 tonnes (880,000 tons) in Europe and 600,000 tonnes (660,000 tons) in the U.S. in 2003.
Approximately 75% of aluminium foil is used for packaging offoods, cosmetics, and chemical products, and 25% used for industrial applications (e.g. thermal insulation, cables and electronics).
In North America, aluminium foil is known as aluminum foil. It was popularized by Reynolds Metals, the leading manufacturer in North America. In the United Kingdom and United States it is, informally, widely called tin foil, for historical reasons (similar to how aluminum cans are often still called "tin cans").Metallised films are sometimes mistaken for aluminium foil, but are actually polymer films coated with a thin layer of aluminium. In Australia, aluminium foil is widely called alfoil.

- Q: Why did they change the cans of the 80s?
- chris W correctThere two ways for this, one a Bender looks like a wheel with about 4-5 different Tube SizesThe other is a Spring looking springHa! It go inside the tube to bend itMost Parts Stores should have these and some Tool Supply places like Harbor Freight have them cheap for people not need a high dollar tool.
- Q: (Thanks for reading all of this, first off!) So I'm going to visit my grandmother in Florida in July, and I'm hoping to cook some meals for her, because we eat out for every meal (which is NOT healthy at all!) and it'd be refreshing to have a homemade mealThe problem is, since my grandmother doesn't cook, there's no kitchenware! There's no mixing bowls, whisks, measuring spoons, measuring cups, there's no olive oil, no eggs, no milk, nothing! She doesn't have much to work with, and I can't find any recipes that don't require using a large collaboration of kitchen appliances/suppliesCan someone please help me? I need some recipes/ideas quickly! Thanks! -Leticia

- Q: I have seen guns made from steel, aluminum, plastics and many many many different synthetic resins and such but never have i seen one made out of titanium and tungsten? aside from the cost it seems to me that it would be a great idea to make the main frame and all the internals out of titanium since it is stronger and lighter than steel while also being resistant to corrosion while making the gas chamber and barrel out of something like tungsten carbine so it could more easily resist more extreme heat and pressure allowing for massively over pressurized rounds to be fired.while I am sure there is a reason this hasn't been done aside from the price but for the life of me I cant think of what that reason would be.and for those of you who I am sure will be thinking it is about price consider that gold plated desert eagle handguns are sold for over 3000$ and those are useless, but yet they still manage to sell.
- I will agree with oil field that it is engineering; defining the best material and manufacturing processes to achieve the design goalsJust because titanium and tungsten carbide are famous materials doesn't make them better choices for firearmsTitanium is typically used in sheet form to reduce weight of structures compared to aluminumTungsten carbide is typically a coating applied for wear or thermal resistanceNot being a firearm manufacturer myself, I cannot say for sure why these materials haven't been used in firearms, other than they offer no advantage to other materials that are more available at lower cost.
- Q: Me and a friend heard about being able to cook any kind of eggs, particulary scrambled eggs on a frying pan that was lined with aluminum foil so that the eggs are cooking on the foil lined inside of a pan to keep from cleaning anything afterwards.yet i seem to think that this is either unsafe or gonna at least make them taste different.anyone else heard this or know that its no good?
- Aluminum leaches into foodAluminum was found to cause Alzheimer's diseaseAcidic foods are especially prone to aluminum leaching (I don't remember the pH of eggs) However, having worked in the restaurant industry for years, most pans used in food service are aluminumA lot of pans used in home cooking are also aluminumI heard a rumor that the FDA was going to make a rule change in the food service industry and abolish all aluminum cookware from restaurant/food service kitchensIt probably won't happen for a few years, anyway.

- Well truck mounted should give you a clue don't you thinkGee, I wonder if it could mean a crane mounted on a truck? Seems to me that you would need a truck and a crane to make a truck mounted crane, so give it a shot, I'll bet you can guess the right answer without any help at all.

- Aluminum occurs naturally in many foodsIt's pretty unlikely that setting their sandwich down on aluminum foil is harmful to your child's healthNow, if they finish every meal by eating the foil, that might not be goodBut a kid would have to be pretty weird to do thatThere is nothing harmful about putting food on aluminum foil.
- Q: please can you give me a simple but detailed answer if that is possiblehope you can help! Thankyou !
- it is melted DC electricity is passed through it one side + the other - the cathode will pull aluminum ions and give them electrons to make them into neutral aluminum ions he anode will pull the oxide ions towards it, take their electrons and turn them into neutral oxygen gasthe molten aluminum metal sinks to the bottom and is drawn off it is melted by and electric arc and the whole process uses large amounts of electricity, this is why it is usually done next to a power plant or hydroelectric dam
