Q: is this fact true? - its a limitation to solar panels during summer when it's in extremly hot countrie. I've heard it from my science teacher .. please give detail if you have any and any more benefits/limitations is welcomed .. Thank you :) !
WHAT? This is far from the truth, IN Scottsdale Arizona a small apartment complex was fitted with solar {photo voltaic cells in the late 70s. Every summer they sold electricity back to the power company. It gets up to 5 fairly often here, and as hot as 23 in the shade. On a roof top it is over 50 in direct sunlight. The opposite is true. When it is cloudy they produce less electricity. They may loose some efficiency when it is very hot, but not enough to make them not work at all, or even enough to really harm the output to any really appreciable extent. A new plastic photovoltaic material that produces about 40-45% of a silicon based solar cell is a neat option as it works when it is very cloudy, you can drive nails through it, and it is flexible. I think these items are kept artificially expensive by big business, but this is just a biased opinion of mine, but as far as not working in extreme heat, NO these solar panels work just fine when it is hot. I am in Phoenix Arizona, and it does not get a whole lot hotter than here. If the cells from the 970s worked OK newer ones are better and will do just fine too. Solar hot water heaters are a slightly different matter as they will over heat the water and the water must be mixed with cooler water, or you can really get into trouble. Maybe this is what he meant. Still I doubt it is enough of an issue to cause the device to be less efficient than a gas water heater, or electric, etc. Maybe he is referring to having to mix cooler water into solar heated water in a solar hot water heater, or some other system, Photovoltaic cells do not have any problems rendering them useless from hot weather on this planet, and in fact, they are used in space and it gets much hotter there.
Q: I am researching several solar panels to install in my house. I would like to use a 40 watt panel to connect, through a solar battery controller, to a battery or two. I would then like to use the solar panel (40 watts) to charge the battery(ies) for emergency use. Once charged, and when needed, I would like to use the battery(ies), 2 volt deep cycle, to power several LED lamps. Since I am new to solar power I had several questions...Is a 40 watt panel strong/large enough to charge a 2 volt deep cycle battery or two?How long would it take to charge one of these batteries? What would be the expected cost to purchase necessary supplies? (With the solar panel, battery controller, and MC4 cabling I've found I have an expected cost of roughly $00.00 with batteries)Would this be difficult for someone with little experience in this field?
There okorder / Why pay thousands of dollars for solar energy ($27,000 average cost) when you can build your own solar panel system for just a fraction of the retail cost. You can build a single solar panel or you can build an entire array of panels to power your whole house. Some people are saving 50% on their power bill, some people are reducing their bill to nothing. But what’s most impressive is that just by following these instructions some are even making the power company pay them!
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a military vehicle or equipment?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on military vehicles or equipment. In fact, many modern military vehicles are being equipped with solar panels to harness renewable energy for various purposes, such as powering communication systems, electronics, and auxiliary equipment. This helps reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources and increases the operational efficiency and sustainability of military operations.
Q: Can solar panels be used for large-scale power generation?
Yes, solar panels can definitely be used for large-scale power generation. With advancements in technology and decreasing costs, solar power has become a viable option for utility-scale projects. Large solar farms comprising thousands of panels are being built around the world to generate electricity on a massive scale. These solar installations have the potential to provide clean and sustainable energy for cities, industries, and even entire regions.
Q: I am looking to wire in some solar panels into my home. I already have plenty of wiring, and some solar panels around. I just need to know what I need to do to wire them into my home so I can lower my electric bill. This past month it was six hundred dollars. Can someone direct me to some information, or tell me how without telling me to hire some guy to come out to charge me thirty thousand dollars to install two or three thousand dollars worth of equipment?
I am all for do-it yourselfers, I am one, but... Sorry to tell you, but connecting solar panels to grid power will require an electrician. There are many requirements for special disconnects to prevent harm to the utillity company workers that must be considered. You will also have to have an inverter sized to match your panels. The simple answer is to connect your panels to something specific, without connecting it into your house wiring. An example is to connect your water well pump to solar power and disconnect it from the grid. But you will still need an inverter and will need to calculate the power demands of the pump and the amount of power available from your panels, which varies by your longitude and latitude. It sound like a simple thing to do, but without special training and experience you will be sorry if you try this yourself.
Q: Can solar panels be used to power a camping trip?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a camping trip. They are an excellent source of clean and renewable energy, allowing campers to charge their electronic devices, power lights, refrigerators, and other camping equipment. Solar panels are portable and can be easily set up in a sunny location to harness the sun's energy during the day and store it in batteries for use at night. They provide a sustainable and eco-friendly solution for powering camping adventures.
Q: How do solar panels perform in areas with high pollution levels?
Solar panels can still generate electricity in areas with high pollution levels, but their performance may be slightly affected. Air pollution can reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the panels, diminishing their efficiency. Additionally, the accumulation of dust and particles on the surface of the panels can further reduce their performance as it hampers the absorption of sunlight. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help mitigate the impact of pollution on solar panel performance.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a pergola or awning?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a pergola or awning. In fact, they can be a great option for maximizing solar energy production while providing shade and protection from the elements.
Q: I can't figure out how to charge a Ni Cd (BD 8V Firestorm) battery directly with a solar panel so I've come up with an alternative which might or might not work. I thought I would connect an inverter (I found a nice 400W for $30) to my trucks battery and plug the BD Firestorm battery charger into the inverter. Then I was thinking I could use a 5W solar panel to trickle charge the truck battery and keep it connected after the Ni Cd is charged to ensure the truck battery is topped off. The truck would not be running during this process. Will this solution work? Is there a better solution?
Your 5W solar panel has to put out about 5 volts or higher to charge a 2 volt battery. 5 watts at 5 volts is only 0.3 amps, which is only enough to handle the internal leakage inside a large battery, plus a bit. If you have a 00 amp-hour battery, that panel would take 300 hours of bright sunlight to charge it. But I do agree that it will keep the truck battery charged as long as it gets sun. Make sure you put a diode in series between the panel and the battery to prevent the battery from discharging through the panel when the sun goes behind a cloud. I'd be worried that if you charged the 8 volt battery frequently, the panel would not be able to replace the lost charge, and your 2 volt battery would wind up discharged. That 8 volt battery is .2 amp-hrs (if I got the correct one). That is 27 watt-hours. Allowing for losses, you car battery will have to deliver over 30 watt hours to charge it. Your solar panel will take over 6 hours of bright sun to make up that difference. That is over 24 hours this time of year. So if you recharged it more than once every 2 days, you will lose charge in the truck battery. .
Q: I am heading to Nepal and do not want to lose power on my cameras but they can only be charged via quot;plugging inquot;. A USB connection does not work. Looking for a solar panel to clip to my bag or carry that I can plug in the charger as if plugging in to wall outlet. Thanks.
Solar panels require a charge converter before it can be used by an AC source. There is no direct solar panel with built in charge converters that I know of because, when purchasing panels, you must purchase the wattage requirements of the job (this can be several panels linked), and a charge converter that will handle the <? panels required. A chain of stores up here in Canada have a portable battery pack that has a solar panel to increase its charge capacity or duration, but its not something you would want to lug around for long periods of time, because is weights in about 3 lbs.
