- vent through the wall it must be a certain number of inches away from the wall and the vent must be a certain number if inches off the floor and sealed with high temp silicone sealant to comply with code because it may require a permit and inspection that i am pretty certain of .Contact your local home center to check the facts i just gave you though to be sure depending on where you live codes may be different .If you disturb the insulation in your ceiling you will start losing energy and that equals money and structure when you start getting into structure you may want to consider other options and you may need a pad to set your stove on to absorb the heat Best of luck to you.
