Q: Is it really possible for me living in Denver to build and install and setup my own solar panel to help make electricity for my home?
DIY okorder
Q: During the summer my house uses about .47 kw/h I am wondering what solar panel do I need to cover most or all the electric bill. A link would be helpful too :)
The correct answer depends on how much total energy you use during the day and whether or not your utility allows something called net-metering. In net-metering, if you make more power during daylight hours than you consume, the meter goes backwards. Then at night the meter goes forward again. With net-metering you only pay for the difference.
Q: Can solar panels be used in conjunction with wind turbines?
Yes, solar panels can indeed be used in conjunction with wind turbines. This combination of renewable energy sources can provide a more reliable and consistent power supply, as wind and solar resources often complement each other. During periods of low sunlight, wind turbines can generate electricity, and during calm periods with low wind, solar panels can continue to produce power. Integrating both technologies can enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of a renewable energy system.
Q: I was wondering if they create other forms of energy besides electrical that is unwanted. Like heat due to the friction of something, or sound. Also why is a solar panel not able to collect 00% of the energy that is striking its panels. And how could the efficiency of this be hypothetically improved.
Science. The best solar panels we have only get like 22% of the sunlight for conversion into energy. That is simply the best they know how to make with current technology. And for that your talking about a mobile panel that tracks the sun as it moves at the equator. A solar panel in say Canada is lucky to get 0% even on a sunny day. But even if a solar panel got 00% efficiency, it's still not a lot. Sunlight is too diffuse to be a good power source, and you'd need to cover lots of ground to get power. Worse, you can only get power when the sun is out during the day. So for power at night you'd need a battery, or another source of power. The 'newest' idea is to capture sunlight to make 'lasers' that boil water, to turn turbines and make electricity. They cost way more then they are worth right now though...
Q: i attached a usb charger to my solar panel(it has an output of about .2 volts) but i read on my multimeter its only using about 8 volts however on the conventional wall charger that i use to charge it has an output of about 5. volts.... i believe that my mp3 player is not charging it does not display the charging icon when it is on or off ....is this becuase the output is higher ? do i need to install a volt dropping diode to prevent it from putting to much energy at once? (my mp3 charges fine on the wall charger but does not seem to respond to the solar panel so it the circuits are fine....)
5.3V is the open voltage or? So the full wattage of the photograph voltaic panel is 45W or so? i assume you are able to no longer make all your small A/C home equipment into DC ones. so which you would be able to think of bearing directly to the 2V DC enter 00W inverter. this type of inverter might have a some bit extensive enter voltage variety from like V-20V some situations.
Q: Are there any safety concerns with solar panels?
There are a few safety concerns associated with solar panels, but they are relatively minimal and manageable. The main concerns include the risk of electrical shock during installation or maintenance if proper precautions aren't followed, fire hazards due to faulty wiring or improper installation, and potential damage from extreme weather conditions. However, with proper installation, regular maintenance, and adherence to safety guidelines, these risks can be significantly mitigated, ensuring the safe use of solar panels.
Q: I thought that I had a fairly good understanding of watt's law, but i'm starting to doubt myself. If I have a load of 4500watts at 240 volts, how many watts of solar panels do I need, if the solar panels are at 2v?Yes, Yes... I have a charge controller, batteries, etc...So the way I looked at this at first:watts = volts * amps For the load4500 = 240 * xx would be 8.75aFor the power source (each solar panel)00 = 2 * xx would be 8.3a8.75 / 8.3 = 2.25, rounded up = 3So... based on that I came to the conclusion that I needed 3 solar panels...But... then I was thinking. Does it work that way?Or do I need 4500 / 00 = 45, aka 45 solar panels? In other words...If I have a 2v power source, how many watts do I need to drive a load of 4500w at 240v?ThanksMatt
The easy way is to just use the power values. You need 4500W. Each solar panel delivers 00W (from a value in your working). Therefore you need 4500/00 = 45 solar panels. This is a crude calculation, ignoring efficiencies, voltage conversion losses and losses due to internal resistance. You would probably need quite a few more than 45 panels. ___________________________ I'll explain how to do the calculation your way. Each solar panel delivers 00W with a voltage of 2V. So the current is 00/2 = 8.333A. Each solar panel delivers 8.333A at 2V. But you require 8.75A at 240V panel delivers 00W. To get 4500W, you need: 8.75/8.333 = 2.25 times more panels to increase the current AND 240/2 = 20 times more panels to increase the voltage. So overall you need 2.25 x 20 = 45 panels. Of course if the power output of each solar panel is not 00W, you have to change the above calculation accordingly.
Q: I want to plug my solar system battery bank into my transfer switch on my cabin when not using a generator. The transfer switch will handle 220 volt from my generator. How do I get a 220 volt inverter that runs 60 hz or do all of them run 50 hz.I see plenty of 20 volt 60 hz. I'm at the point of needing to order one and I'm not sure.
Where is this located? Very few countries use 220 60Hz. Find an inverter that is dual voltage like the reference. Usually the frequency switch is separate from the voltage switch. .
Q: What's your opinion on solar power? More specifically, having panels installed on your roof to reduce your electric bill. I'm having a consultation tomorrow to get more details. I live in the SW, so it's always crazy sunny here. I don't know what the cost will be yet. Is it something you'd consider if the situation was right? If not, why?
You dont say where you live? you need to consider average sunshine hours. There are some sites on the net that will work out for you what percentage of nameplate capacity you could expect to receive for different areas. Usually the capital cost wont be paid off for at least ten years, so money wise you would do much better by investing the cash. I once asked a guy (climate warmer) whether his solar panels had paid off or would do in the future, his answer was no but it was the right thing to do morally.
Q: planning to get one, for a store/house, we use alot of electricity at least 500-3000 dollars a month. how much money would this save us? how big would we have to get the solar panel?[aproximately]
Consider installing building energy measurement first, which cost less than $200. Work out what is using the energy and if there are more efficient options. Consider co-generation which uses gas for an energy input and electricity generation and heat as an output. Use the Solar Energy Calculator to work out how much solar panel area is needed to generate the remaining power needed in you are of the world.
