- Q:I have purchased a 2 volt LED lantern from argos, it comes with a built in 6 volt 4ah sealed acid battery. What I wanted to know is would I be able to charge it using my 6 volt solar panel?
- If it has a 6 volt battery- is it marked 2 volts on an external plug? If so, there is a resistor inside to drop the potential the battery sees. The battery itself could be slipped out and recharged easily from your 6 volt panel. Just determine how much current (in Amps or Milliamps) the panel produces nominally and divide that into 4 and add one fourth of that length of time to make up for system losses. This will tell you how many hours it should charge assuming your starting voltage of the battery is above .5 volts. and the panel is at 3 volts potential or higher. So if your panel puts out amp at 0AM, you would charge for 5 hours. 4 divided by is 4 and one fourth of that is so 4 plus is 5. It is a little more involved than that, but as a rule of thumb. Also do not discharge tha lantern to the point of no light output. LEDs are efficient, but their current will add up. If it is suggest to be able to use the lantern for up to 8 hours on a charge, stick to that value. Lead acid batteries have best longevity when discharged only to 80 percent capacity. Once battery is charged- disconnect from charging source.
- Q:I have a college project due within a week, and it involves a 00 Watt solar panel and a 2V 7.5Ah Battery. I got the project finished up and producing free energy for my house in September, however recently the battery I bought, that was specifically made to hold Solar Power, lost its charge (unsure how or why) and it is pretty much useless. Can I just go to a store and buy any 2V car battery to use?
- well the thing to remember just like any rechargeable battery they don;t respond well to continues charging they need some down time to discharge and then recharge. during the charging process the liquid or battery solution get hot and even evaporates. Replacing the battery solution with water won't work when your battery has lost it's solution you need to get battery acid replacement or battery repair solution. this is sold in many location near where the batteries are sold. check your spec for your solar panel out put and take those specification to your local auto store and they might even suggest an over sized battery. you might consider adding an additional battery in series for additional power storage.you might also using a light sensor and cut off switch solenoid which which stop charging or which would also stop and current from returning back to the panel. if you have every own a small car the battery is much smaller than that of a pick up. be sure that you don't get the small battery look for a large heavy duty battery all sold in the same store.
- Q:There is a charge controller that has what i believe to be only port for a solar/ wind turbine control panel and i don't know if it has more than port for panels. So would i be abed to link 2 panels to port or do you think the controller has more than portBTW it is for marine use.

- Q:Was looking at 0w solar panel kit. Does this mean, all I can use is something like a 0W CFL light bulb and nothing else?
- No. The way to set it up is to store the power generated by the solar panel in a battery, then use the battery to power your lights, radio, etc, when you need the power. A standard deep-cycle marine battery is typical for panels of this size (WalMart for approx $90). A 0W panel will generate between 30 50 Watt-Hours of power over the course of a day (May-Aug weather-dependent), so this would equate to running a laptop for -2 hours, or a 0W CFL light for 3-5 hours, or a 20W stereo for .5-3 hours, etc. I find it is much easier to speak in terms of watts. Divide the watt-hours by the watts of the appliance to get the number of hours it can run. Hope that helps!

- Q:Most solar panels (the flat ones that go onto roofs of houses) reject electricity produced by the panels if they are too low in voltage. For example, on a cloudy day, although the panels may still get some sunlight to produce some electricity, it is rejected because its too low in voltage. So, does anyone have any ideas?
- Put one more panel in series with other one to increase the voltage output during cloudy day.
- Q:I'm looking for a solar panel that has something you can plug thigs into, I don't know let's say grow lights. I want something that these lights can plug directly into and I can't find any online. If there is any I would like to know of the cheapest and best quality, I know that's an oxymoron but still. The lights are 600 watts so I need something somewhat strong. Thanks
