- They could be using GPS, but not that configuration. As others suggested, it could help the operator more accurately position his blade. It's more likely to help other operators know where he is. It's most likely so an observer can use it like a range marker navigation aid to tell the operator to veer more to the right or the left. If the driver is in the right place, his pod will line up with a survey marker.
