Made of black, hard rubber it adapts and is tightened with (2) hose-clamps. If one or the other outside diameters vary somewhat, the coupling can be worked onto the pipe with a little elbow grease. FYI; I did find a special reducing fitting coupler for this problem but an order would have to be at least one dozen so I disregarded.
