- Q: How do I choose the right size of solar panels for my home?
- To choose the right size of solar panels for your home, you need to consider the available roof space, your energy consumption, and your budget. First, assess the area on your roof that can accommodate solar panels and determine its orientation and shading. Then, calculate your average monthly electricity usage to estimate the system size required to meet your needs. Lastly, take your budget into account and consider the cost-effectiveness of different panel sizes. Consulting with a solar professional can also provide valuable guidance in determining the right size for your specific requirements.
- Q: Also, what's the solar panel's rate of producing electricity?
- Solar thermal in commercial applications is more productive than natural gas, taking in consideration the sun must be out. the reason being is when natural gas is exposed to a heating element(boiler, hot water heater) it loses efficiency. lets say solar thermal can produce a therm of hot water, but that would equal .2 therms of natural gas using an 80 percent efficient boiler. solar being close to 95 percent efficient. No boiler can do that. now when the sun goes down, fossil fuel can beat electrically stored energy, not stored steam energy in a thermal plant for example. but that all depends on efficient steam generators.
- Q: I want to get a solar panel to run a fan (or two) for swamp coolers.I'm not looking to power 20box fans, just maybe some of those auto fans. What the heck kind of panel do I need? What is a power inverter and what does it do?Will I lose all my power if I use a 00' extension cord? How do I choose what I'm going to need?
- Any fan you find in a store is going to expect AC, not DC, which is what solar panels produce. An inverter changes DC to AC. You'll probably want a deep cycle car battery to smooth out overages and underages. Any fan will tell you how many watts it uses. Panels should (i haven't looked) tell you how many watts they produce. Just off hand, I'd guess you're looking at a 2'x4' panel. Considering how much you'll be paying for the rest of the stuff, a good 00' cord is appropriate,. Last, it's worth the experience, but you'll never recover the cost of everything that you'll have to buy. Have fun.
- Q: Hi, wanting to set up the most basic solar panel system for a cabin in the woods that has enough power to recharge four 2V car batteries during the daytime (i am assuming; we want to run a mini fridge maybe a stove and a few lights at night off the batteries and be able to run it all just off solar during the day) It also needs to be able to power some simple tools during the day... Experience would be absolutely amazing since alot of the info on solar paneling is either really dumbed down, or ridiculously confusing. As of right now I am looking at a 3 panel (45watt in all) solar kit that needs a 300w inverter.... is this sufficient for my power needs? I am just a little perplexed, thanks so much!
- if the cabin is in the woods it is unlikely to get enough sun to power solar panels 45 watts will not even power a light bulb and although it will trickle charge a battery it will not charge then enough over daytime for much else, most tools are a minimum of 550 watts, you really need to be in arizona for solar power to contribute effective wattage
- Q: I need to prepare solar panels for using in home needs electricity purpose. Can anyone could help me to know much more about it.
- It's possible to make a DIY homemade solar or wind power turbine to power your home, house, water pump, irrigation system and much more. You don't need to buy expensive wind turbine generator equipment. Trust me these wind power generator equipment cost so much that you could spend years saving to buy a very small unit. I live in a very windy and remote area in Kenya; Africa where it might be another 3 decades before the national power grid finally gets to our horizon. I was about to buy such equipment when I stumbled on a do it yourself manual online that had colorful illustrations of how to make a homemade wind turbine for as low as $200. Compare this to a small turbine unit that goes for no less than $ 3000 and you see what I mean when I say you are better off making one at home.
- Q: I have been thinking about getting solar panels for my house. What do you think I should get? Companies? Prices? I also have another question. How much energy can a small solar panel produce?
- A small panel will not produce much power. When people put solar electric panels on their house with the goal of saving money, they generally put up a lot of large panels - 200 or 500 square feet worth. Its hard to save money with just one panel. The only way to get close on how much it will cost and whether that represents a savings is to get out your electric bills for the past year, and call a local solar installer for a quote. The system on our house cost $20,000 and we got back $8,000 in incentives, so $2,000 net. It can save money, but that will be over many, many years.
- Q: Dear Friends, I am very much worried about Global warming, So to contribute something for reducing Global Warming I have decided to use Solar Panels. Can anybody tell me what is the price of these Solar Panels and why people are not using them when they are environment friendly. What are the Pros and Cons of these Solar Panels?
- Solar panels are not environmentally friendly. They are expensive and inefficient. Dangerous chemicals that never break down in the environment are produced in the manufacture of solar panels. Their environmental footprint is larger on a per kilowatt basis, than conventional modes of electricity generation. And, because of their unreliability, they have to be backed up by conventional sources. Well-intentioned, but gullible, people the world over have convinced themselves that solar power is our salvation. Nothing could be further from the truth. As an example, check out Margaret Wente's recent column in the Globe Mail after Ontario's recent decision to go green. Also check out George Monbiot's critique of the UK experiment.
- Q: I am looking to run 2 basic shoplights, each with 2- 32 watt T8 flourecent tubes for 6 hours a day for an indoor garden. Location WI.
- Lets say, for a simple approximation, that the 45 watt panel produces 45 watts /3 of the time and nothing the rest of the time. Each day, this will produce 8 hours times 45 watts = 360 watt hours. Also assume the battery charge controller and inverter waste half of that power, leaving 80 watt hours per day. If you use compact fluorescent lamps, that would allow you to burn 80 watts worth for an hour every day, or 90 watts for 2 hours, etc. That is a lot of light for a shed. You might consider using much less efficient tungsten filament lamps, but eliminate the inverter and choose low voltage (automotive) lamps that can run directly across the battery and lower the total cost, but give you only about half the light times time. The main advantage of the inverter might be that it would allow you to use small power tools or appliances in the shed. -- Regards, John Popelish
- Q: How do solar panels affect roof weight load?
- Solar panels can increase the weight load on a roof, but their impact is generally minimal. The weight of solar panels is usually evenly distributed across the roof surface, and most roofs are designed to handle this additional load without any issues. However, it is recommended to consult with a professional to assess the roof's structural integrity and ensure it can support the added weight of solar panels.
