- Q: Is there a way to trap a lightning bolt?
- An ABC or BC unit would work, but is likely to permanently damage the device. Use a CO2 or Halon if possible. Specialty extinguishers such as Type D's are intended for fire containing the material in significant quantities, there simply isn't enough Li in the battery to cause a problem. Now if you had a few hundred batteries collected for recycling it would be different and a Type D might be required. EDIT: By damage I was refering to the ability to recover the data on the hard-drive, not saving the device. Dry chemical extinguishers, including many Type D's, use a very fine powder to smother the fire. This powder will make a mess of the hard-drive, especialy since it's under presure, making recovery difficult. - David
- Q: We were recently traveling back from a ski trip and making the descent from the lodge at 8,000 ft. The roads were sporadic, ranging from severe snow and ice to some parts of the road being cleared by plow. My buddy kept wanting to put on and take off the chains every couple of miles. He said he had a mechanic tell him the chains would ruin the tires very quickly. Five minutes later we would run into another stretch of road that had severe conditions. In the scenario described do the tires get affected that easily for a need to take the chains on and off every couple of miles or is it best to leave the snow chains on until getting down the mountain? I am an advocate of keeping them on until you get below the snow line. I could buy the argument if we were riding for 500 miles with chains going 50 MPH, but we were going 20 to thirty in severe wintry conditions through mountain passes. This was the Alps to put it in perspective when I describe the snow as severe. 4 ft. + of snow on the ground and snowing.
- Basically, what happens is in the sensor that is on the window there is a magnet. when the two sensors are next to each other, the magnet closes the switch and the circuit is complete, when the sensor is not there, like when the window is open, the circuit is broken and the alarm goes off. So what you do is you cut the two wires connected to the top sensor, strip the wires, and close the circuit, and the alarm wont go off when you open the window. it will not harm the rest of the system at all.
- Q: what's the song that's goes, &I'm the king of the ring ring..&?
- Question, Is it all the door locks that don't work or just one door? You really need to answer this question before anybody can take an educated guess.
- Q: How do you identify the type of extinguisher?
- The name of the fire extinguisher bottle is represented by: (T stands for carbon dioxide extinguishing agent; P stands for foam; QP represents light water foam extinguishing agent; SQ stands for clear water fire extinguishing agent).
- Q: Are fire hydrants and fire extinguishers the same kind of thing?
- Fire hydrant is one of the fixed fire fighting facilities. It is the main facility for fire fighting and water supply. It is divided into outdoor fire hydrant and indoor hydrant. The outdoor fire hydrant is divided into two kinds according to its installation form. The fire hydrant installed on the ground is called ground hydrant, which is suitable for the areas with higher temperature. The fire hydrant installed below the ground is called underground fire hydrant, which is suitable for cold areas.
- Q: Fire alarms tend to sound viciously like buzzers, slow whoop, etc.
- Do you mean onto the outside of a house or inside a house? If it's your own house, it's not a crime to discharge a fire extinguisher. If it's somebody else's house and you spray the outside, I can't see it being too much of a problem. I suppose you could be forced to clean the area, but it's unlikely to cause permanent damage. If you spray it inside the house, you could easily damage things such as furniture, appliances, and electronics. You could potentially be civilly and/or criminally liable for the damage particularly if there is no fire.
- Q: So last night I was cattle prodding the oyster ditch with my lap rocket. I've mentioned before that my cat likes to watch, but now it's pissing me off. He sits there and meows and I don't know what the f.ck he's saying because he's a dumb cat and I'm human so I don't speak f.cking meow. Anyways, so I was thinking of maybe I could throw the cat out the window (we are on the second floor), or maybe next time I can just pull out and paint the cat white. My fiance likes neither of those ideas. So then I started thinking that maybe I will lock the cat up, and when she gets home from work tonite, I'll have dinner waiting. After a few bites, when she asks where the cat is, I will say Well, you didn't want me throwing him out the window or splooging my manhood on him, so now he's in your tummy.10 points funniest responsthose without a sense of humor need not apply
- yes, the fire extinguisher does not know the difference between a house and a warehouse. The only thing that matters is what type of extinguisher it is. Most are a dry chemical in powder form and they are used to smother the flames. There are extinguishers that use carbon dioxide to put out the flame and you do not want to use those in your home. Extinguishers for warehouses are typically a little larger than household ones, but they will put out the fire just the same.
- Q: My alarm system keypad beeps almost every night at around 2:00 am. It chirps every 30 seconds or so for about 15 min. and then stops. Last night it played its little game twice. Yesterday I had a technician look at the system, he changed the battery which obviously was not the problem. I have used the phone while the system is beeping, so if the system thinks there is a communication error it is mistaken. This started a couple of weeks ago and now happens almost every night. It did happen during the day not long ago as well.Do I need to have the freakin' thing replaced or can it be fixed? The technician from the carrier is not help!

- Q: hi,here is the question:1. A lightning rod is a safety device that is meant to be hit by lightning. Charges tend to concentrate on the pointed end of the lightning rod. Explain why the lightning rod would draw the lightning to itself?please help me!!!thank you.have a great day!
- Personally I would have at least three in my house which is small. The more rooms you have the more FE you need. Here are a few tips on buying FE's. You need to make sure that you get a Class B for the oil. Class c is for electrical fires and Class A is for plastics paper and such. Class B extinguishes flammable liquids, such as gasoline, oil and grease. Check each extinguisher's number rating. The higher the number, the larger a fire the extinguisher can put out. (A 4-A unit will put out twice as much Class A fire as a 2-A one.) A high number usually means a big, heavy unit. Disposable units ($10 to $20) are typically made of plastic and lose pressure after about 12 years. Good luck and it is great you are thinking ahead this might just save your life.
- Q: I heart from the local news a couple of years back that an old man in his 60s died from CO poisoning due to a faulty gas heater in his bedroom, and as he did not have any relatives, his body had been left to rot for one month before the authorities and coroner came to take him out. He also failed to install detectors. Is it possible for old homes with faulty gas heaters to kill people like this? Should gas heating be banned then?
