Q:It seems additive layer manufacturing comes in laser to metal format,if so, acquring just one of these machines (although I realize at a ridiculously high price) covers all the functionalities of many variations of CNC machines. (like mills, lathes, routers etc, of which I assume there are limitations on angular production)Will this not cut the learning curve and rapid prototyping time significantly?Or is there limitations in these type of rapid prototyping machines as well do you think?I just think, learning and using many different machines these days on manufacturing is quickly becoming obsolete. What do you think? Is CNC still a must?
CNC is still needed for some things. If I need a part that must be made of very hard and strong alloy tool steel then you cannot make one on the 3D printer. However there are many parts that can be made on the printer instead of a CNC mill.

Since it originally had a lifespan of 30 years, it will lose $900,000 in 30 years, or $30,000 per year. V(t)=1,000,000 -30000t for the first 20 years. It's lost $600,000 in value and still is worth $400,000, but this will all go away after another 20 years or $20,000 per year... V(t)=400,000-20,000t for t between 20 and 40 years. brake horse power of an engine is the actual amount of horse power an engine can put out. Using 745.5 watts as a horse power, the engine will supply the equivalent of 30 times 745.7 watts at 30 brake horse power. This is 22,371watts. The generator is supplying 20 Kw or 20,000 watts. The difference in the engine output and the generator output is 22,371 minus 20,000 or 2.371 watts. I don't see how the answer is 1039 watts, if my calculations are correct. Perhaps someone else will have the answer you seek. I may be missing something in your question.
Q:I am trying to decide what i want to settle in and do for a career. I would really like to become a heavy machine operator for road contruction and such. What are the requirements to get into this kinda work and where is a good place to start? I don't have any other contruction experience, i have painted houses and installed satellite for years.
This is a very good occupation. Many current heavy machine operators were trained on the job. They got this training because they first worked in construction for years, and knew the right people to send them to school. Without a good recommendation from a construction crew leader, or from your union, it will be hard to get this specialized training. You have to prove yourself as being trustworthy, responsible, and able to do complicated problem solving.
