- Q: how much would you pay for a 2'x4' solar panel that puts out 24 volts and 74 watts?

- Q: I had an idea for new parabolic solar panels shaped like horseshoes. They can install them outside buildings facing the equator. They could angle them from the ground based on how many degrees latitude the location and rotate them according to seasonal changes. The disadvantage of photovoltaic panels is that they are not all capable of receiving direct sunlight. That is the quintessential reason I believe horseshoe solar panels are more effective than flat rectangular ones. One side could function in the morning; the middle could perform at midday; and the other could operate during the evening. That method seems more sensible than hourly positioning. I'm certain horseshoe panels could save and produce more electricity. A football stadium, shopping mall, or outlet center would be a fantastic place. What do you think?
- Well here would be the problem with a horseshoe panel... Due to its shape, you will get a seriously uneven distribution of solar charge. Since the horseshoe shape resembles a parabolic function, the majority of the electrical photovoltaic cells will be spanned over the larger rise/run, meaning the two ends of the parabolic shoe. A way to combat this is that as it approaches 0 from both sides (0 tangency) is to put a higher concentration of photovoltaic cells in comparison to the two ends on either side. An even better design I would say would not to use a flat panel or even a horseshoe, but instead, use a sphere shape. It's globe-like shape would never need to be adjusted. The side pointing towards the sun would absorb and the remaining 360 degrees of shape would absorb ambient light which can trickle in tons of ambient charge. It is an eyesore but the round shape would be the most efficient. If you think about it, nature is the best example to model. Just look at a tree. It's general tree shape is rounded so that all the leaves can pick up some sort of light throughout the day.
- Q: How do solar panels affect the property's LEED certification?
- Solar panels can have a positive impact on a property's LEED certification as they contribute towards earning points in several categories such as Energy and Atmosphere, Sustainable Sites, and Innovation in Design. By generating renewable energy and reducing the property's carbon footprint, solar panels can help achieve higher energy efficiency, promote sustainable land use, and demonstrate innovative practices, ultimately boosting the property's LEED certification level.
- Q: im aware i dont fully understand. but with what i do. if P = iv, and current changes with voltage, whats the point of changing either. if in any cicumstance, you end up with the same wattage, how does changing either effect a solar setup. (2v panel vs 24v)thanks in advance. explain in laymans if you can.
- The choice of solar panel voltage comes down more to what the panels will be connected to. You're right that power can remain the same at the different voltages. Higher input (panel) voltages are sometimes used in inverter systems to reduce the effect of voltage draw-down. 2v panels (about 20v open circuit) work well for charging 2v batteries, connected in parallel, through a charge controller. For use of a grid-tie inverter, higher input voltages are sometimes used to reduce the effects of draw-down. You want to select and wire (parallel vs. series) your panels based on the input voltage requirement of the load, whatever it may be.
- Q: Has anyone actually used those kits online like energy4green or earth4energy to build their own solar panels or windmills? I'm so tempted but with my budget can't afford to waste any money. They have a 60 day money back policy but that doesn't include the money used to buy the supplies to try and build the things. My electric bill is almost $300 a month due to my stay at home disabled veteran husband who went from Utah snow to Florida sun and he has to have the AC on really cold. If anyone has actually built one can you tell me of your experience and if it actually is worth the money? I do lots of D.I.Y. projects but am a novice with electric besides installing a ceiling fan and changing out a light switch.

- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a recreational vehicle (RV)?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a recreational vehicle (RV). Installing solar panels on an RV allows for the generation of electricity from sunlight, providing a renewable and independent power source while on the go. This is particularly useful for boondocking or camping in remote locations where access to traditional power sources may be limited.
- Q: Are there solar panel systems that I can plug directly into my house to help reduce my electricity bill? If so, are they very expensive? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
- I wish it was that easy! Maybe it will be soon. But at this time, no, there isn't. And if you have a solar collection system, you have to have a way to store the energy when you're producing more than what you are currently using. That usually involves an expensive battery array. But it's necessary. The power coming directly from the solar panels will be erratic and sending it to the battery array for storage and then use allows for the home to draw a consistent level of power. And this battery system also allows for storage of electricity for use when the sun isn't shining like at night. The system should be set up to use your power first, then go to the grid. It should also allow for distribution to the grid when your system has stored all the power it can and that's when your meter will run backwards and the power company will be paying you! There are a lot of federal and state income tax rebates for alternative energy installation costs. Check out what Oregon might toss into the package along with the Feds and see where you might come out.
- Q: how big of an solar panel do i need to power/charge my laptop?would one from canadian tire sell the right one?
- Most decent laptops can use 50W of power or more....so you'd actually need a large solar panel with good sunlight. I just looked up how big a 50W solar panel is....it's about 64x64 centimeters...which is very big and expensive! So, solar power may not be the best solution to power, or charge a laptop battery. Maybe there are some solar powered chargers that charge the battery very slowly, but probably not.
- Q: quot;Does it take more energy to produce a solar panel than what the same solar panel can generate in its useful lifetime?quot;
- Thor is right and wrong. Solar panel will produce more than they take to make. My solar panels only have a 0 year estimated useful life. They may actually last longer, but with time they lose efficiency. Here in Phoenix where the sun shines all the time, a decent solar system you purchase and pay to have installed will pay back the original investment in 5-20 years. If you are a handyman and can install it yourself it will pay back sooner. Solar is a great system for reducing CO2 pollution, but until grid power rates increase a lot, it is still not very cost effective in most areas. It is also a myth that anyone can just install a solar system and get off grid power. Most people could not afford it, and most people would not like not having heat or air. Any system that normal people could afford could not supply anywhere near enough power for heating or air conditioning.
- Q: And how do you choose the best one for the best price?I saw a 400 watt monocrystalline solar panel
- In regards to my research about these two types of Solar Panels, I suggest that the Monocrystalline Solar Panel would be great! It is affordable and also more convenient to install. Using a 400W Panel means fewer panels and less installation time, in addition to fewer connections and transmission losses which results in big savings and a faster return on your investment.The Topsun Solar Panels boasts efficiency of up to 6.77% and use cutting edge technology for the best heat dissipation in the industry.
