Q:I have a small marine solar panel on my boat It came with the boat. I want to make sure it is working before I connect it. With a volt meter It is only reading .2 volts dc. I would think it should be 2-5 volts?
If it's only reading 0.2 volts, then the panel is burned out. What you can do is look for a nameplate on the panel, then try to look it up on the internet. Hopefully that will say what the voltage is supposed to be. You are right in that a panel intended to charge a 2-volt battery should read about 8 volts open circuit out in daylight, even if it isn't pointing straight at the sun. Is it a flexible rubber panel? Those are notorious for dying after just a couple years.
Q:I had installed over the summer a solar panel system on my house. Hers some infofor you: I live in MOThe system cost 25K (Rounded numbers)The Rebate from the utility company was about 0KThe expected tax rebate will be about 5KI have a home office from which I work and is 5% of my homes sq footage. My question is though I am getting a basic tax rebate, should I be able to claim part of this off as an expense for my home office? It seams logical since I used to deduct part of my electric bill and I there for should be able to write off part of this. I am, after all using electricity and getting a bill from the utility that is higher than it would be if I didn't have the office2. If so which amount should it be? The full 25K or something after the rebates.
The solar panels are a capital improvement. You can deduct 5% of the depreciable portion of the property as part of the home office deduction. You'd have to depreciate the solar on the same 39 year straight line schedule as the house itself. (The land value is never depreciated so you'll have to break that out separately.) Since this is business use of real estate, the depreciation is over 39 years, not the 27.5 years for residential rental real estate. That crunches out to a whopping $38 deduction per year for the depreciation on the solar panels. ($0,000 x .5) / 39 = $38.46 which rounds down to $38. If you're in a 25% tax bracket, that will save you a whopping $0 in taxes. Keep in mind that when you sell the home, the depreciation allowed or allowable will be subject to recapture. That is taxable income subject to a maximum tax rate of 28% even if you can exclude the gain on the sale under Section 2. For that reason you might wish to consider the safe harbor deduction new for tax year 203. You may deduct a flat $5 per square foot up to 300 square feet for a maximum deduction of $,500. That won't trigger the depreciation recapture (for the years that you use it, you can switch off year for year if you wish) and may reduce the likelihood of an audit as well.
Q:What are solar panels?
Solar panels are a collection of photovoltaic cells, that are used to generate electricity, from light. Here is the simple explanation from wikipedia, concerning photovoltaic cells . Photons in sunlight hit the solar panel and are absorbed by semiconducting materials, such as silicon. 2. Electrons (negatively charged) are knocked loose from their atoms, allowing them to flow through the material to produce electricity. The complementary positive charges that are also created (like bubbles) are called holes and flow in the direction opposite of the electrons in a silicon solar panel. 3. An array of solar panels converts solar energy into a usable amount of direct current (DC) electricity. Solar panels are used extensively for power generation in many places, but most space applications (like satellites and spacecraft) use solar panels. If you look at a picture of the current configuration of the International Space Station, the giant wing things are the solar panels.
Q:I know absolutely nothing about electronics but have a lot of money. I am thinking of buying the Sunforce 3730 30W monocrystalline solar panel (the best I could find that was that size or smaller). What would be a good battery to go with it? I am thinking of buying a 2V Concorde Sun Xtender (again, the best I could find). But how many batteries will I need? I want enough batteries that it would take the solar panel 2 days to completely charge them from empty (bearing in mind the unavoidable inefficiencies like cloudiness/changing sun angles). Also, what other stuff would I need, like I hear something about a quot;charge controllerquot;? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
How many batteries you will need depends on what you are planning to do with them which you did not mention? Sunforce makes a 30 amp charge controller part no. 60033
Q:I live in Sacramento, CA, and I need some solar panels for a project fo school. They don't have to be very big......just something that I can use as an example. Thanks!
If they're just to be used as an example, go around your neighborhood, and find a yard with solar yard lights. Then ask the owner whether you might borrow one or two. If they say no, move on and find another house. I'm pretty sure someone will say yes, after you explain what it's for. They will trust you, because you could have just stolen the lights, but instead asked. Option B is to have your parents take you to Fry's Electronics, and purchase a solar item, like a motion detector light, or even a standalone solar panel. As long as you don't mess up the box, you should be able to return it later for credit. But that's borderline dishonest, because you never intended to keep the merchandise.
Q:i just took a trip to florida, they are cutting down anything that doesnt float and putting up buildings. Most of these cost a bundle, bill gates may pay cash for them, but most people will have many payments. Since pools, satellite dishes, and docks if near the water seem to be standard issue, why not a couple solar panels and water heater. It is florida after all, and if you are allready paying a half million or so for a house, what is another 0k gonna mean to you. Why dont they make it mandatory to include these on all new housing and condos and businesses. With that many the price would come down quickly and pay for itself long before the house is payed off and/or florida is flooded due to global warming.
Wow that is a great idea! We have so many old houses around here that no one lives in and they are building houses on 2 /2 acre lots. That seems like a waste of land. There is this construction company that is building town houses with solar panel roofs and the upstairs is the bedrooms and the down stairs is the living area so that it takes a very small lot. 40 x 60 even has room for a car port and small backyard. My friend has one and he made it low cost so everyone has a chance at home ownership. They are being build where he is buying the land and tearing down old houses and puting up these town houses. Makes the town look better and cleans up otherwise bad looking neighborhoods. If they can do that here why not all over? By building up she was telling us it cost less for foundation and roofing which is the most expensive. It is 900' sq ft. 2 bdrm bath. Let's go back to the time when people didn't have to have these 6000 sq.ft houses with 5 acre lots.
Q:Im curious because I read about a boy who invented a 3d solar panel, using a pyramid he designed a solar panel that collects light more efficiently. Now I have a question. Why cant I design a solar panel that takes adventage of convex and concave mirror's and use a surface that collects light and then focus's the suns energy into a beam and take the beam into a chamber where the solar panels are sitting and surround them with mirrors as well, so any light not obsorbed by one particular spot is reflected to another area for reabsorbtion. I know solar panels dont absorb light but perhaps that will allow more light to create the effects it needs.

Q:Can solar panels be used to power a water pump?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a water pump. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which can be used to power various devices and appliances, including water pumps. This allows for a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to pump water without relying on traditional energy sources.
Q:where can i get some solar panels for a camper trailer
There are many suppliers for solar panels. Try camping shops, BQ or other leisure shops. Alternatively try one of the companies listed here:
