- It really depends on your LCD monitor, there are cheaper models with less mature technology, whereas CRTs have been around a long time and hence it's cheap to produce good models, and they don't (afaik) make them anymore. Try look at high-end IPS monitors, which do have much better colour reproduction, viewing angles and then the price :P. People moved to LCD, not because of image quality, but for energy-efficiency and how light it is.
- Q: I have an LCD flatpanel monitor for my computer, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on cleaning it. I have had it for 2 years, and have taken good care of it. However there are a couple annoying fingerprints and little smudges from fingers that have touched it. - It will last longer if it is set up to turn off or go into power save mode after the computer has been idle for a while as opposed to being on 24/7. Most LCD panels have a MTBF of well over 10 years of continuous use. The part that goes bad over time is the backlighting, which dims over time and can be down to 1/2 brightness after 30-50,000 hours on newer monitors. This means that at 8 hours per day of usage it will be noticeably dimmer in 10 years, however you can compensate by increasing the brightness setting when this eventually happens. My LCDs from 2003 are running just fine after 5 years of 12 hours+ per day and I bet they can take another 5.

- The term flat and LCD are generally used interchangeably, however that wasn't always the case. A flat monitor could be a CRT monitor with a flat display surface* or a LCD monitor, whereas an LCD monitor is always flat. *before LCDs became the norm, many manufacturers were producing a CRT monitor with a flat display surface, which supposedly made a superior picture, as most traditional CRT displays had a slightly curved surface.

- If you are looking for gaming, do not buy an LCD. Instead buy a TFT because its angle of view, response time, dot pitch, contrast ratio all are 3-4 times greater and better. response time is usually in millisecinds, i.e. in how many msecs will the change in the display be shown on the monitor. for example if response time is low, then a fast moving mouse will be hard to see, but it is not the case with the TFT's. Best one is obviously samsung's sync master.
