- Q: Hello,My mother's co-worker accidentally dug up a turtle nest while using an excavator, and most of the eggs were crushed and broken, except for 6. My mom brought the 6 eggs to me, and I have no clue as to what I should do. Right now they are in a large flower pot or dirt, sitting about three inches under the surface. The flower pot is sitting beside a window that gets sun during the day. The eggs look like the first picture on this web page.
- if it's possible to get sand, that would be better. Just keep them about 4-5 inches from the surface, and you can keep them in the sun all day (as they would be in the wild). Their mom doesn't look after them at all anyways. Not sure what the dimpling could be a sign of, but it is normal.
- Q: Hi, I'm in the Navy right now, but I really want to get into construction in the future when I get out, but I have no experience.I've heard that a good idea to get your foot in the door is to take a class to operate heavy equipment. I've researched a couple companies who do classes like that, like ATS, but most of them last months. I want to take classes like this, but I don't think I'll be able to take leave long enough to take one of these classes. Are there any other ways to get some lessons for equipment like dozers, graders, excavators, etc. in a shorter time period? Thanks.
- Probably not. To learn to safely operate a number of different pieces of equipment like this you need lots of hands on experience and that takes some time. If a school offers a shorter program do not trust them. The best way to get into construction is to get into a 4 year apprenticeship program and learn a trade from the bottom up. Supplement your experience with training at a community college. If you are young enough you might consider learning two trades for flexibility and then get into a construction management course or an architecture program. Electical, Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing are all good programs. Autocad and some construction management or business courses would really round you out well. Construction can be a very rewarding career but there are no shortcuts. You need a combination of schooling and OJT to be successful.
- Q: What engine Hitachi excavator?
- In what type of car more large tonnage by Isuzu and MITSUBISHI engine
- Q: Just looking for a good long list so I can organize an itemized bid to compare to the general contractor's base s.f. price. Be as inclusive as you can. Thanks guys.
- Well, you need: architect electrician carpenter plumber surveyor painter floor installer, carpet, tile, stone, etc drywall installer/ finisher roofer Plus all of the inspections needed, state, city, county, any needed for insurance purposes. Depending on the style and your requests, there can be many, many other specialty contractors as well.
- Q: My family own a large landscaping and irrigation company and were thinking of buying a mini excavator for removing trees and planting bigger trees i.e. palms and such. We also install irrigation up to 4 inches of Pvc pipe and repair all kinds. Also French drains. If anyone has anything else I would love to know your opinions! All comments are welcome negative and positive. Thanks!
- I am a bit baffled that a business person in your line of work would need to ask a gardening forum if there are any advantages to owning a mini-excavator. Of course there are advantages, and disadvantages as Dan H so aptly commented. As a business you get to write these expenses off on your taxes.
- Q: what is the productivity of medium earth excavator in backfilling work?

- Q: Two Tank/Tank Destroyers during WW2 (That I know of) used the American 3-inch M1918 and British 17 Pounder. These Vehicles were the M4 Medium Tank (Sherman to the British) which mounted both 3 Inch or 76mm Gun and the Firefly M4 Tank Variant mounting the 17 Pounder. The M10 Tank Destroyer mounted the 76mm and Achillies mounting the 17 Pounder. The reason I chose practically the same vehicles is cause I wanted you opinions on the guns rather than the Tanks/Tank Destroyers.
- The U.S. had 2 tank/tank destroyer guns that fired the same ammunition: The 3-inch M7 gun from the M10 tank destroyer (and various prototypes) and the 76mm (actually 76.2mm) M1 and M1A1. The guns had the same ballistic performance but the M1 series were much lighter and more compact, being designed specifically for use in armored vehicle turrets and not adapted from other applications. Both of those American guns and the British 17-pounder (also 76.2mm but operating at higher pressures) were high velocity guns designed specifically for tank-killing. The 17-pounder was certainly the better tank killer firing standard ammunition (APC, APCBC, etc). The American's started shipping HVAP around the same time the British started using APDS so the 17-pounder kept its edge. HE performance for all of these guns was notably inferior to the 75mm M3 or British 75mm QF, which is why they were fitted primarily to tank destroyers instead of tanks. Somewhere in my files I have the production figures for 17-pounder ammo (but I'm not at home right now). Until August 1944 the 17-pounder essentially did not have an HE round. The original projectile was a poor performer and produced in very small quantity. The reason only 1 or 2 tanks per troop were Firefly's was due in part to availability but also due to the fact these tanks were only issued with AP ammunition until late summer/fall of 1944. The summer of 1944 is when the 2nd generation of 17-pdr HE ammo came out with reduced propellant charge. This was an OK round, but no 75. After this I don't think there is much to chose from on the HE front between the respective British and American guns. For a Tank Destroyer whose main job is firing AP (rather than a tank that fires mostly HE) the 17-pounder is clearly the better weapon
- Q: Could a paleontologist that found a dinosaur skeleton make good money from the find? I know I have to go to grad school for this? This is when they make the money isn't it? I know of a nice site to find trilobites that know on else knows the only bad thing is that these are headless and some are curled up and others are flattened out. However, I have also found many caves in my area that haven't been gone through by excavators. The caves probably have some prehistoric bones. Either way lady geologist your on a role and have 20 pts so far unless some one gives me a better answer.
- If you are concerned about making money - become a stock broker or a lawyer. If you are concerned about money you won't be happy as a paleontologist. You need to love the discovery of the history of life on Earth. Money should be secondary. Most paleontologist don't make a dime from the fossils they discover. The fossils are kept in the collections of universities or museums.
