Q: I have two African fat-tailed geckos that I bought on February twelfth. It is the fifteenth and one of my geckos has just laid one egg. I didn‘t know that either of them was pregnant and I missed seeing which gecko was the mother, for they are both females. The only thing that I could think of to keep the egg warm was to get a small, about 4 inch deep Dixie cup with a lid and fill it with loose coconut fiber substrate (which I use for their bedding) and mix it with warm water to make a soft damp mush to lay the egg in. So, my real questions are:1. Will loose coconut fiber substrate work to incubate my single egg?2. How do I make sure it doesn‘t get too humid?3. How often do I need to check the humidity?4. Will the egg naturally be soft shortly after delivery? 5. What do I look for to make sure it is a healthy egg?
I'm not sure if this will work. I recommend using vermiculite, a substrate material used in soil for house plants. You can get it cheaply at any hardware of plant store and it will hold the proper moisture levels you need to incubate. Do this quickly before the egg drys out. Good luck; I hope this helps
Q: if you know any of the rest I need these too:graphitehalitemagnetitequartzsulfurtalcmicskernite vermiculite
At first I would beleive that this is pyrite. Or fools gold. A good test is to put it on a hard surface and the poke it hard with a knife. Or squeeze it between pliers. If it breaks its pyrite. If it bends, you have either a foil, or possibly gold. Another test you could do is put a few of these flakes in a bowl or pan along with some dirt you have in the carden, put in a small amount of water. Shake it all up, hold the pan and bang the side, this will cause the heavier material to sink to the bottom. now swish it around soflty and slowly, if you can get the gold colored stuff to stay, and everything else to float off, you have gold. This process is called gold panning. If it is indeed gold, I would recommend you start digging. Gold is at $893 per ounce. But i doubt your are just diggin up gold flakes, even though it is possible, i would guess its pirite, or trash, or foil capsules from fertilizer
Q: We just mated my two leopard geckos and yes one is a boy and the other is a girl, i know that we have to give the female a home to lay the eggs but i am not sure what to put inside the container? and should i have the container open or cut a whole on the side and it covered?thanks
Once the female lays the eggs you can remove them and put the eggs in a plastic deli cup with holes and sterile vermiculite, soil or sand for substrate. I'd prefer vermiculite because it holds heat and humidity. Like many other egg-laying reptiles the sex of Leopard geckos are determined by incubation temperature. Eggs incubated at 79 °F will result in a majority of female neonates, whereas eggs incubated at 85-87 °F will result in a more even sex ratio and eggs incubated at 89-90 °F in the first four weeks will result in more males. Females hatched from these eggs are generally more aggressive than other females, and they tend to reach sexual maturity later if at all. An incubation temperature lower than 77 °F or higher than 97 °F will cause deformities and usually death of the neonates incubated at these temperatures
Q: How do i measure my perlite and vermiculite for my incubator in pounds? What do i multiply it by so i know how much water to put????
Difference Between Vermiculite And Perlite
Q: Vermiculite in the end what color is good, my how like false?
Usually from biotite to hydrothermal alteration or weathering. It sometimes appears as large biotite (this is the biotite illusion of vermiculite) and sometimes becomes slightly soil like. When the vermiculite is heated to C, it expands 20 times and bends. This is a bit like vermiculite leech (Hirudo, commonly known as the leech) so it has such a name. Vermiculite is usually brown, yellow, dark green, oil like luster. When heated, they turn gray. Vermiculite can be used as building material, adsorbent, fireproof insulating material, mechanical lubricant, soil amendment, etc..
Q: i need to know what sort of material you would use to grow plants vegetatively.like in leaf layering or tip cutting.
Vermiculite is generally used outdoors for moisture retention and soil conditioning. Perlite is best used in potting soils for houseplants. I don't believe either is appropriate for compost. Compost should be made up of organic matter only.
Q: my female gecko just lay 2 eggs about a 30 minute ago. I dont have no incubator. please what do i do I dont want them to die. Please help can i use dirt i dont have vermiculite
Put them in a small, sealed container, gladware or ziplock type disposable food container, or any small plastic box you can see into. You can use soil, it's not the best, but it can work. Just make sure it doesn't have pesticides or fertilizers in it. And not from outside, you don't want any little bugs or nasties trapped in there. Coconut fiber works best in my opinion. What ever you have in the bottom, make sure it's moist, not wet. Inside the sealed container, you want to see just a little moisture on the sides, but not dripping from the top. You don't want the eggs to get wet. If you see condensation forming on the top, open the container carefully and wipe the drops off. Make sure you don't roll the eggs, the top has to stay the top. Put them in the container, seal it, and put it somewhere they will stay between 80 - 90 degrees farenheit. Closer to 90 and the eggs will hatch closer to 30 days. Close 80 and the egs will hatch in closer to 60 days.
Q: Hi, I have access to 30-50 large solid white plastic pails, with handles. They are used by a large soft drink manufacturer for their product. What could I make out of these that would be useful? Thanks folks, I look forward to many great suggestions! :):)
tire rotation is very important because it lets the tires to wear evenly. you bring the back up to the front and the front to the back but not right and left or you will change the belt pattern.
Q: 2 Western Fence Lizards. One female, naturally. She doesn't seem to be showing any physical signs of being gravid--she's usually been just fat is all. I haven't felt any eggs under her belly, although she is getting a little more plump. However, I'm seeing some digging FAR more often than usual. And she's not trying to get in wherever she's digging. So I think she's trying to lay eggs. Whether or not they will come out OK is another story. What I have at the moment:Repti-Fresh sandZilla Jungle MixEverything else is accounted for. I have the right kind of box to put her in. Is plain sand okay for a lay box, or do I need something that holds moisture like vermiculite? I know you need that for the incubator, but I don't know much about the lay box.
I used vermiculite for my ball pythons, as instructed by various local breeders. This substrate worked well for me (4 seasons). The only thing is I find vermiculite tends to stick to the hatchlings. I've been told that perlite doesn't have this effect. I know a breeder who produces Leo's, Cresteds, and Gargs. She uses SuperHatch. Apparently it changes color from brick red to pink as the moisture evaporates, and is infinitely reusable. Never used it or heard much else from said product, though. Whatever is available to you, I guess. I've heard good things about all three. Familiarize yourself with whatever substrate you choose. You should be good with any, realistically. Take care.
Q: How do make it more humid for my leopard gecko eggs can I spray the eggs with a little water? How often shOuld I spray my tank and if so the eggs alsowith water to increase humidity? And is spagnam moss an okay substrate for my leopard gecko eggs considering my local pets tore doesn't sell any vermiculite?
I'm guessing your trying the pf tek method. Try Lowes off of Stassney and I-35 for the vermiculite. central market for the brown rice flour. We also have an excellent hydroponic store here in Austin called Bright Ideas off of Congress and 71 for the Perlite and other needs. Good luck.
