- Q: i am getting a crested gecko in a few days that is supposed to lay more clutches of eggs this season and i need to make sure i have all of the facts right so give me any info or links you can and also i was wondering how you get the wetness for the perlite/vermiculite perfect so its not too wet or too dry Thank You.
- it been 9 yrs since i rescued a corn snake that layed 27 eggs.and all hatched and back in the wild.but you want the perlite/vermi. to be damp to the touch. keep the container a lil open for air circulation. all i can remember for now.
- Q: then why do people use it for setting reptile eggs in (such as bearded dragons) during incubation..I want to breed my bearded dragons in like a year or so.
- After they hatch the babies will most likely not eat until they have had their first shed - which on average is about a week later. Remove access to the vermiculite and just use paper towels as a subtrate and create a standard moist hide. So after they shed, just offer them food and they should eventually start eat by themselves. The food offered should be no bigger than the width between the eyes. Thats is pretty much, most people don't normally have any problems raising leopard gecko bubs. Hope this helps!
- Q: ok so my leopard gecko will be laying eggs soon. i know that you have to keep the vermiculite damp for the eggs..but how do i do that? do i just wet it once or mist it all the time with the eggs still in there?
- Vermiculite an Perlite
- Q: Wanted to know because I have both a male and female box turtle and they have been hooking up.
- Nesting quarters Prepare a 65L (20 gallon) tank with about 10 cm (4 inches) of potting soil or soil/vermiculite mixture. Laying eggs The average gestation period is two months, but if she doesn't find a suitable place for laying her eggs, she might retain them inside. During the last two weeks you will notice that she will spend more time on land, sniffing and digging around in order to find a proper place for laying her eggs. At this point, you need to place the female in the nesting quarters. At this point, you need to place the female in a tank with about 4 of potting soil or a soil/vermiculite mixture. Try to watch her as much as you can to see where she lays the eggs. She might lay from 2 to 20 eggs. There are pro's and con's to both leaving and removing the eggs. Removing the eggs or not There are pro's and con's to both leaving and removing the eggs.If the eggs are left, you eliminate the risk of damaging the eggs. Keepers who have a good basking area prefer to leave the eggs where they were laid, a good point of doing so is that they do not need to handle the eggs, digging them out could damage the eggs or some of them. However, if left buried, they are difficult to monitor. Also, if an egg is infected with a fungus, it may spread to the whole nest or the hatchlings may have a difficult time digging their way out.
- Q: Hello All, Title basically says it all. I have a few bags of pure Vermiculite sitting outside, and its time for my leopard gecko's tank to be cleaned and re-done because his coconut bedding is getting dirty, and was wondering if I could just use the vermiculite as the substrate? if not, I can get some coconut bedding, but its kind of a long drive? Thanks in advance:)
- It depends on what you want to grow - some things like highly aerated soils. You've already included pumice in your soil mix, so you should be okay. Once a month, we use bamboo skewers (available in packs of 20+ at discount stores) to aerate our house plant soils. We just slide the pointed end into the soil 20 times or so.
- Q: Okay. Im new at the whole lizard business. Im a 17 year old female wanting a leopard gecko. I have been researching these geckos for over a month. I plan to have one gecko, so should i have a 10 or 15 gallon tank? I definately settled on reptile carpet for the bottom. Crickets dusted with calcium fed on daily basis, or mealworms, and wax worms as treats. How often should meal time be? Should i get an adult or juvienile lizard to start? And my biggest question, where to get my lizard? A lot of people say ones from pet shop are mean/unhealthy. Im living in Rome, Georiga so what breeder does anyone recommend thats not too far away and is reputable?
- Just a few more things to add to what has been said. I bought 2 reptile carpets. They are very easy to wash. That way when you take one out to wash you have a clean one to immediately put in while the other is drying. Once they are adults you don't have to feed them every day. You can if you want. It's what ever a person prefers. I know some people who feed their gecko about 3 meal worms or crickets every day and some that feed them a dozen or so once a week.
- Q: I bought some vermiculite from my local pet store , I seen one black bug on my eggs. What does this mean, how can i get rid of them ?
- Coffee grounds are better I believe because it can turn into compost after a while and I'm not sure if vermiculite will.
- Q: The instructions say place in a ziplock bag with damp, not wet, vermiculite. then put in the fridge for 90 to 120 days. I‘m assuming this would be the necessary cold spell they need. I dont have any vermiculite and the nearest place that does is 70 miles east out of my way. would a moist paper towel do?Thank you.
- some moss, even peat moss from a garden center, mixed with regular potting soil close enough.
- Q: Can i use vermiculite to insulate existing stud walls?,What is the R velue on it in stud walls?
- okay
- Q: Is the vermiculite the leopard gecko egg is sitting on supos to be cold and moist?
- Have you thought of what you are going to do with 20 sulcata's? Having just 1 sulcata is hard to care for. You really should crush them with a shovel. It really isn't fair to bring them in this world and not be properly cared for. I have a big heart for Sulcata's and feel for them not getting a proper home. If you just want to hatch 1 of the eggs and take responsibility for that tortoise that is cool.
