Q: i have a battery bank cupboard and i wanted to put the inverter in there but the batterys give off gases and the inverter is electrics is it safe to pu them in there: Even if the batteries are sealed lead-acid, it will have to be forced-air ventilated or your inverter will cook to death.

Q: Can a small scale wind generator power enough batteries to power a 5 ton air conditioner? And if it can, how large of a battery bank would I need, and would a 220 power converter be good enough.: While I'm not sure how much power your air conditioner will need (different units have differing efficiencies) but for a first approximation we might guess around 5KW. 5KW is on the larger side for residential wind turbines, but should be possible. Next problem is how much does the wind blow, if it is constant, or at least constant when you need air conditioning, then you don't need much of a battery bank. But you'd be lucky if that was the case, if you do need to store power for when the wind is low, then the turbine need to be sized to run the AC and charge the batteries, so an even bigger turbine will be needed. As you can see how much wind you have is a critical factor. A for size of battery bank, just to make the math easy I'll assume you need to store enough power to run the AC for 10 hours (this is just a wild guess, it might be far different) 5KW x 10 hours is 50,000 watt/hours, on Wikipedia I found a claim that typical energy density for lead acid batteries for this application is between 30 and 40WH ber kilogram, using the average, you'd need around 1400Kg (~3000lb) of batteries. There are really too many variables too give a good answer here, if you would have no problem spending $20,000 (and wouldn't totaly freakout over $50K+) then contact a local consultant for more information. If you can't afford that, it is probably not really worth giong any further since $20K is at the very bottom of the price range for that size of instalation.

Q: I am looking at buying two Power Acoustik P3's, but still am weary about what kind of amp I need to power them. Each sub is 12, with 1300watts RMS 1600watts peak. Most Class D amps I have seen are rated at 4ohm, 2 ohm, and 1 ohm stable. These speakers run at 2ohms. On amps I am looking at run at 900watts RMS x1 channel. So if I am running 2 speakers, is this cut in half? So for instance instead of the amp running 900watts RMS, it would be running 450watts RMS to each speaker. To me, that's pretty underpowered. I'm not trying to break the bank on this, both speakers are gonna cost me $200, an enclosure probably 60-80.: I can't help you on the quality of the speakers. But if you put in speakers that can not handle all the power the amp can put out be care full not to turn the radio up all the way. just because the amp is rated at that power rating it is only putting that out at full power or before distortion ruins the sound quality reproduction of the speakers. do no thry to put a potenetionmeter (variable resistor) in series with the speakers, you'll change the resistance and mess up the balance of the resistance of the circuit.

Any suggestions?: As is, if the parts were replaced correctly, about 225 horse power. For one thing, Seems like the modifications were intended more to make the truck loud instead of more powerful. Loud does not always equal powerful. Did the installer simply slap on a few random parts or did they take the time to tune the engine and jet the carburetor? If the installer failed to jet the carburetor with these changes the engine could have actually lost about 15% power and fuel economy. Let's face it. Horsepower costs money. At least if you want to make any serious power. The biggest restriction on the Gen 1 SBC was not the mufflers or the intake, it was the cylinder heads. You can't make any serious power on a smogger SBC with the factory stock heads no matter what cam, intake, carb, or headers you use. But the problem is that a decent set of aftermarket heads cost big bucks. A decent set will set you back a couple of grand. But all in not lost if you are mechanically inclined and got the guts. You can port and polish your own heads to make them flow better. If you are a little mechanically inclined this is not out of the question. While you are at it you can do some port matching. This is just a wild suggestion, but maybe you could put in the type of A/C that is made for travel trailers or custom vans. They are the type that mount to the roof.
