- Q: what size would the panel be/ I live in the caribbean so plenty of sun!
- What does the advertisement have to do with your question? Yes; BUT, depending on the pump, you may need several panels and possibly an inverter if it is an AC pump. You will ALSO need at least battery in the circuit to provide a load to the panel.
- Q: I want to buy a solar panel kit but I'm unsure of how it works. Basically I want to run my entainment set, Xbox, cable box, 46 led tv, and some desktop speakers. I went online and found a kit for like 250 or something like that at homedepot and was wondering if that kit is worth the money or go bigger or something.
- Well, you'll want to find the wattage your devices use. Then you'll want to be able to supply that with your solar cells. Plus a fair margin for emergencies. Most of them should have their expected wattage printed on them, but you could also get a meter to measure it. Beyond that, you will want an inverter, and some batteries.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed in a remote location?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed in remote locations. In fact, remote areas with limited access to electricity grids can greatly benefit from solar panel installations. Solar panels are designed to operate independently and generate electricity from sunlight, making them an ideal solution for off-grid locations. They can be installed in remote areas such as deserts, mountains, or even on boats, providing a reliable and sustainable source of power.
- Q: What is the impact of shading on solar panels' performance?
- Shading on solar panels can significantly decrease their performance. When even a small portion of a solar panel is shaded, it can disrupt the flow of electricity and reduce the overall output of the entire panel. This is because solar panels are typically connected in series, so shading on one panel affects the entire string. Therefore, it is important to ensure that solar panels are installed in areas with minimal shading to optimize their performance and maximize energy production.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a church or place of worship?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a church or place of worship. Many religious organizations have taken steps to embrace renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint by installing solar panels on their rooftops or open spaces. Installing solar panels not only helps to generate clean and sustainable electricity but also serves as a visible symbol of the organization's commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Q: Can solar panels power an entire home?
- Yes, solar panels can power an entire home. The number of solar panels required will depend on the energy needs of the home and the efficiency of the panels. With the right setup and sufficient sunlight, solar panels can generate enough electricity to cover the energy consumption of a household.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of salinity or brackish water?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of salinity or brackish water. While exposure to saltwater can potentially cause corrosion and reduce the efficiency of solar panels over time, there are various measures that can be taken to mitigate these effects. These include selecting corrosion-resistant materials, applying protective coatings, and regular maintenance. Additionally, advancements in solar panel technology have led to the development of more robust and durable panels that can withstand harsh environments, including areas with high salinity or brackish water.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on any type of roof?
- Solar panels can be installed on most types of roofs, including flat, sloped, and metal roofs. However, the suitability of a roof for solar panel installation depends on factors such as its orientation, shading, structural integrity, and load-bearing capacity. It is recommended to consult with a solar professional to assess the specific requirements and feasibility for installing solar panels on a particular roof type.
- Q: I live in Hawaii and having a solar panel is not a bad idea since we have plenty of sun the only problem is that it cost a lot of money and takes many years before you get your money back. There are kits available where you can make and install your own solar panel and wind turbine but is it bull **** or is it a good deal?
- If you're in Hawaii, number one, be sure to get a solar water heater. Guaranteed fast payback. Now about those kits. Avoid the kind that says you can make your own panels for under $200. Those are scams. If you're in CC of Honolulu, you will not be allowed to connect that kind of panel to your house - it doesn't meet National Electrical Code because it doesn't have a safety rating like UL. There are kits for grid-tied solar that run from $6000 on up. That's the kind that can actually save you money. I don't know whether you are allowed to install it yourself, though. In California, you can, as long as you get the inspection, same as any other building project. In spite of being further south, Honolulu gets about the same amount of sun as we do in San Jose, California. That's because our area is dry, and you have more clouds and rain during an average year. If you're in one of the wet valleys like Manoa or Palolo, obviously the situation would only be worse. But your electric rates are high, so you have a good chance of making your money back. Very few sites are really good for wind turbines. You cannot just put it on your roof in the city - it needs to up high, where the wind is strong and steady. That's why you see turbine mounted on towers. Also, because it has moving parts, it's going to wear out. Finally, you know how cars rust out quickly there compared to the mainland? Same thing with a wind turbine.
- Q: I live in the UK, I have no savings (so would have to take out a loan of about ?8000), I don't know how long I plan to stay in my house, I might want to move in a year or two to take advantage of a better job so I want to keep the option open of being able to sell my house without having to pay off the cost of having the panels fitted (which I probably won't get back on the increased value they add to my house). What are the main advantages of having solar panels? What are the pitfalls the ever so eager cold callers with quotas to fill don't tell you about?Basically is it worth having them?Thankyou.
- If you're talking about photovoltaic panels, for making electricity, they're very expensive. Around here I think it runs around 2 bucks a watt of capacity, just for the panels. Then they have to be installed of course, which means an electrician has to be paid, and you need an inverter also. You can also spring for a bank of deep cycle batteries if you want to be able to store the electricity from the panels to use at night or on cloudy days, but that adds another very large expense. Now if electricity is very, very expensive where you are, you could maybe pay this off in a few years, but I doubt you could pay off 8000 pounds worth of this stuff in only a couple years. If you're talking about solar for water or air heating, well, that's another deal. But those kind of setups cost a lot less to put in, I can't see anyone paying that much for it.
