Q: How can solar panels be integrated into building designs?
Solar panels can be integrated into building designs in various ways, such as through rooftop installations, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), solar facades, and solar windows. By incorporating solar panels into the design, buildings can generate renewable energy while minimizing the visual impact and maximizing energy efficiency.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a hospital or healthcare facility?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a hospital or healthcare facility. Installing solar panels on such facilities can help reduce carbon emissions and energy costs, while also providing a reliable and sustainable source of electricity. Additionally, the use of solar energy aligns with the healthcare industry's commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and reducing the overall carbon footprint.
Q: How long do solar panels last?
Solar panels typically have a lifespan of around 25 to 30 years, although some can last even longer with proper maintenance.
Q: I've been thinking and I'd like to have solar panels installed on my roof at some point to help reduce our electricity consumption- but I live in IL and in the winter it frequently snows. Is there such a thing as heated solar panels so they don't get coated w/ice or snow? Are solar panels even a feasible option in IL? Thank you, Anna
Absolutely you can have solar panels in IL, there Anna. I am from Rochester, NY so I am a little familiar with frequent snowfalls! Plus my In Laws have solar panels and they live just outside of Chicago. (Oak Park sounds familiar, but I cant for the life of me remember the name of their community) Check with your local building department as to what you may have to do to your existing roof, as the panels and its necessary roof bracing can be quite heavy. Add a good Lake Michigan snowfall to an already heavy roof and you could have yourself a big problem! In better news many utilities and states around the country provide financial subsidies and incentives that along with the subsidies from those from the Federal Government greatly reduce the initial cost and speed up the amount of time it takes for you to recoup your initial investment. Solar panels by their very nature are warm, as they absorb the light from the sun. The latitude for IL is such that the solar panels on your roof will be tilted so much that the only way snow can build up is if there such a snowfall on your roof that its accumulation rises above the solar panels. There is no such thing as heated solar panels and you can very easily have solar panels in climates ranging from the Carribean to Northern Canada/Alaska. If you get serious about solar energy give a company called Sun Electronics a call. I know it may sound lame but my in-laws used them for their house and have been quite happy with the outcome. My In laws (at times) are cheap and are not an easy crowd to please.....but again are very happy with their outcome! Good Luck.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a streetlight?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a streetlight. This allows the streetlight to be powered by solar energy, reducing reliance on the electrical grid and contributing to a more sustainable and cost-effective lighting solution.
Q: how to make electricty using solar panels or wind generator
there's a e book called hand-crafted potential that covers making photo voltaic cells and panels. some extra progressive libraries have it. in the different case its a visit to the OKorder save (which style of kills the finished loose deal). in case you meant warmth air panels or warm water panels then there are extremely some books interior the library that cover that subject. mom Earth information mag also has had many articles on both photo voltaic/electric powered and photo voltaic warmth panels. in the journey that your library consists of adult males mag and keeps decrease back subject matters of their stacks.
Q: hey so im doing this project for my technology class and i was wondering what different colours solar panels can be. also is it possible to have kentic power as a back up power if batteries dont work? thx in advance
Ours are all silver - we have them on a canal boat and on our house roof for water heating. I've not seen them in any other colour, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
Q: How could I find out what the amp output of a solar panel? Specifically, I want to know how many milliamps can the solar panel on a Casio fx-260 put out?
You need full sunshine from the sun, or a lamp that will give a light spectrum similar to the sun, a volt meter, Milli-amp meter, and a variable resistor of 0 to 000 ohms. The voltmeter test leads go across the solar cell leads. The amp meter leads will be in series with the solar cell. Let's say, positive lead of the solar cell to the the positive lead of the amp meter, the negative lead of the amp meter to one terminal of the variable resistor, and the wiper terminal of the variable resistor to the negative lead of the solar cell. Slowly decrease the value of the resistor until the voltage from the solar cell just begins to drop. Take note of the amp meter reading. This is about the high end range of the solar cell. You might want to begin with a micro-amp meter for the current meter.
Q: I'm very interested in how solar panels work. I understand the bigger picture of how it can be used for solar heating or as a generator, but I'm lost at the smaller details. Things like: - Could my computer work on solar? It has a 900 watt power supply (this is excluding monitor/speakers) - if a panel is for example, a 60 watt panel, does this mean it will pump 60 watts a second into a battery? - Does solar heating make the water electrified?
Solar water heating is low technology. There are do it your self plans for it all over the internet. There is no electricity involved. Simply laying a garden hose on the ground in the hot Sun can heat the water to really high temperatures. Just have a shutoff nozzle on the hose, turn on the tap and open the nozzle until water comes out and then close the nozzle at the end of the hose. Let the hose full of water sit in the sun for an hour or so and then open the nozzle and feel how hot the water is that comes out. Be careful, because it can be so hot you can get a burn! When the gallon or so that can fit in the hose has all come out and is replaced by other water from the tap, it will feel cold again. Close the nozzle and wait another hour to heat it up again. A solar hot water heater is just a very long coil of pipe in the Sun, maybe with a pump to slowly circulate water from a holding tank so you can make and store more hot water that fits in the hose. Solar electric power is completely different. It uses semiconductor devices called solar cells to make electricity directly from light. Many of solar cells are usually arranged into large panels to make larger amounts of power. In electricity, Watts = Volts * Amps. Battery capacity is usually measured in Amp-hours. Small solar panels are often designed to produce electricity at 2 volts. A 60 Watt, 2 volt panel makes 5 Amps of electric current, because 2*5=60. So if you use it to charge a 2 volt battery with a capacity of 5 Amp-hours it will take hour to charge. A 0 Amp-hour battery would take 2 hours to charge with the same panel.
Q: The inverter I am using gets the required 2 DC volts from the solar panel, but fo some reason it just won't output the 0 AC voltage. When the inverter is hooked to a car battery, it works just fine off the same 2 DC rating. Help me out please...
Solar panels output a very small amount of current. Even though you're getting 2V from the panels, you aren't getting enough amperage to power even the inverter itself, let alone anything plugged into the inverter. Car batteries are able to be used with inverters because they can crank out enough amps to power the inverter and whatever is plugged into it. Inverters only step up voltages and change DC to AC. They do not increase power (wattage) potential. If you want to plug in a 20W appliance into the inverter, the 2V source must be able to deliver 20W of power regardless of voltage. In pretty much everything solar powered, the panels are used in conjunction with batteries. The solar panels slowly recharge the batteries. The batteries are where most of the power comes from. Nothing is driven directly from the solar panels themselves unless the power requirement is low enough, such as a calculator. Solar panels will have an output rating in watts (W). If the wattage of your inverter plus whatever you plug into it is lower than the panel's output rating, then it can power it directly, provided you have 00% light input into the panel.
