Q:What are the different ways to join plastic sheets together?: There are several different ways to join plastic sheets together, including adhesive bonding, thermal welding, mechanical fastening, solvent bonding, and ultrasonic welding.

Q:I have recently purchase a new dining room set and want to protect the surface of the table from scratches, watermarks, etc. I am not looking for a plastic table cloth to cover the table, I am searching for the plastic covering (if you will) that protects the table.: You can get it at upholstery shops, fabric shops (JoAnnes has it) some craft stores and even some boat showrooms. I don't advise putting it over your dining room table if it is wood, however. The heat from plates may stick it to the wood, it is not thick enough to act as a heat barrier that is why you often see sheet glass used for this purpose. In addition, wood needs to breath and plastic won't allow it to do so. You would be better served to use placemats, chargers and a cloth table cloth or even what they call table pads for your purposes. You could even have the hardware or home improvement center cut you a piece of plexiglass to size then put the clear acyrlic rubber bumpers on the bottom to let the table breathe. The only problem is that plexi scratches easily but at least it saves the table.

Q:OK, I have to do some landscaping and I want to try to prevent weeds from popping up, so I planted 10 Lantana and around the whole area I laid a clear plastic drop cloth, I cut about 12 inch holes for each of the lantana and I covered the whole thing with mulch. I want to make sure that this will not kill the lantana, the plastic does not let water or air through however like I said I cut 12 inch openings for the plants, is this adequate?: if you live in a really warm climate, you might kill everything underneath the plastic. The ground will heat up and the plastic will trap the warmth and the soil won't breathe. Let's hope it doesn't kill your plants.
