- Q: Is it really possible for me living in Denver to build and install and setup my own solar panel to help make electricity for my home?
- It's okorder / has something to say about various scams, including solar.
- Q: What are solar panels?
- The solar panel is that convert sunlight into electric. There are two kinds of solar panels, poly solar panel and mono solar panel.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with frequent thunderstorms?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with frequent thunderstorms. While thunderstorms may temporarily reduce solar panel efficiency, modern solar panels are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including lightning strikes. Additionally, thunderstorms also bring heavy rainfall, which can help clean the solar panels and improve their performance.
- Q: Pls is it ok to connect a 0watt and 20watt solar panel together into a charge controller port, can i just tie the wires together and run into the controller?? Will damage anything...Thanks guys
- Tobi, generally yes, solar panels are like beer, all the europeans get along fine, you can put two Belgiums in the same room as one German and three Englishman. As long as the panels have roughly the same open circuit voltage, usually around 8 volts, then go for it. If you're not sure about this, or the panels voltage disagrees dramatically, then they can still work through the same charge controller, the only other thing you need is a bypass diode in the junction box on the back of each panel. Most modern panels come with these already installed. They are simply electrical check valves, allowing current flow in one direction but not the other. The reason these matter is when the sun is first coming up, the higher voltage panel can force its power backwards through the lower voltage panel, at least until they both reach a voltage higher than the charge controller is set at. This is not a desirable thing to have happen, the 20 watt panel, if its voltage is higher, can damage the 0 watt panel without these diodes if the 20 watt has a much higher open circuit voltage, or Vmax. Look on the back of the panel for these ratings. The only other concern is maximum current. A charge controller has a maximum current it can handle, they are generally model numbered this way, a Xantrex C-60 for example has a 60 amp rating. Add up the Imax numbers on the back of all your panels, this is the maximum amperage the panel should put out. As long as it is not above 80% of your charger controllers maximum amperage, your good. Take care, Rudydoo
- Q: They have been around long enough to be cheaper. Unless they are made out of a natural material that is rare and hard to find, there is no reason why they should be so expensive. On another note, I think that all low power devices like cell phones and even laptops should have solar panels. Even if it is not enough to fully power the device for a long period of time, it will provide some electricity savings and with millions of people saving a little power adds up.
- Photo okorder /... Notice it costs over $200 and it takes up a sizable amount of space. Plus you have to expose it to bright sun light. Over all this is not something the average consumer wants to spend money on or fuss with. If something is expensive, difficult or inconvenient to use then people won't use it. Just the basic economics of such a device limits its sales never mind its functionality and usability. Even if you made a small one buit into the cover to extend the battery you won't get much of an extension and you will increase the cost of your laptop. Consider how people shop, will they buy the more expensive laptop for a questionable amount of battery extension? Mass production can lower costs but in order to mass produce something you need a demand that will consume what you produce. But if no one wants the item because of the aforementioned issues than you can't justify mass producing the item. This is like the classic which came first Chicken or Egg problem, one doesn't happen without the other. Cost reduction doesn't happen without consumer demand. This is where tax incentives, subsidies, low cost loans and energy buyback contracts come into play in order to spur on demand and jump start mass production. You could also make electricity extremely expensive by taxing oil and carbon so that a Solar Cell becomes economically competitive to very expensive electricity. Problem with this option is the negative impact high energy costs have on economic activity. Just look at what happened a couple of summers ago when gas hit $4/gal. To spur on demand we need to incentives the use of Solar cells (and other alternative energy). This can be done through several means such as subsidies, tax incentives, low interest loans, energy buyback contracts etc...
- Q: Parents planning on buying some solar panels for our house down in Dubai it really hot there I'm currently living in Canada, anyways I'm wondering how many solar panels and volts ill need to light up a 2400sq ft. House? Please leave you're suggestions below!
- this is according to the load, that is to say, how many electricity do you need in one day.
- Q: If i wanted to get a 5 KW solar Panel does it mean it produces 5KW a day/hour/year!?!?i need 2555.35KW a week and i don't know how many or what kind of solar panels i need. Please somebody help me
- It means that it will produce (at best) 5kW when the sun is shining in an ideal position, in hour that's 5kWh so, on a good summer day it may produce a total of 25kWh nothing at night see the link for a 5kW system, you need at least 0 possibly 20 times that.
- Q: Can anyone give me a simple but informative explanation on how solar panels produce electricity/power? Thank you!
- solar panel absorb sunshine , and it will produce electric charger, the charger move to one direction, it wil produce electric current, so it produce electricity. the electricity can through cable move to solar battery to store or to country power grid to provide electricity for people using.
- Q: China is building solar panels and have been for years. That is the most abundant energy in the world. My nieghbor has two panels on his roof and he actually sells energy back to the electric company. These panels cost about $30,000. each, because we don't produce them here on that level. If we did, that price would drop drastically. Other alternatives are also available. Drilling for oil will no change anything. Once you give the oil companie the go ahead, the will focus on that and the alternatives won't be developed any farther. We will be right back here in about 0 years. The price will not go down anyway. So why not switch half of our fuel to alternatives?
- Solar voltaic panels are not 30,000 dollars each, a good panel, 24.4Vmp, times 95 watts, is about 900 dollars. Solar electric generation, makes sense, not because of the myth that the energy transmission companies 'buy' the energy you produce in excess (energy companies, zero out the balance at the end of the year, so that it only makes sense to design a system that equals your needs, not exceeds them). Solar electrical generation, is the future of energy freedom, but the powers that be, do not have yours' and my economic freedom in their portfolio. They are actively pursuing the globalization, to push down the working class, to the 'post industrial age', where the working classes, can once again, be relegated to serfdom, while the super rich, drink DOM, and watch us toil in the sun.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed in areas with high levels of saltwater exposure?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed in areas with high levels of saltwater exposure. However, it is important to choose solar panels that are specifically designed for these conditions and are corrosion-resistant. This may involve using materials like marine-grade aluminum or stainless steel for the panel frames, and ensuring proper sealing and coating to withstand saltwater corrosion. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also necessary to mitigate the effects of salt buildup on the panels.
