Q: I have a Katadyn Vario pump for camping and haven't used it in eons (7 years or so) and I took it apart to clean it.For now, and for future reference, how can I clean the actual intake/outlet plastic tubes? The inlet tube is inserted into gross pond/lake or running stream water, so it's already contaminated. I would love to be able to wash this tube for SURE, safely at home.(The O-rings are still well-lubed, and I've ordered new activated carbon to refill the glass fiber filter.)
Sure, just use dishwashing liquid (not the type that goes in the dishwasher - too caustic). And you can also rinse it with a weak bleach solution (a teaspoon in a gallon of water) to disinfect it, then flush it well with fresh tap water. I did exactly those steps with my neglected filter before taking it on vacation last summer and it worked fine.
Q: It comes in a plastic bag, no information is on it such as what plastic number it is. Tried google but nothing relevant is coming up.PLEASE LIST RESOURCE.Thank you.
Generally (stress on generally) used or opened medical equipment can't be recycled for legal reasons. Check with your local authority. But it can be re-used and re-invented. If it's not used you may also be able to donate it to an international charity (most domestic won't take it).
Q: What does "DN" and "Dn" mean in plastic pipes? And de?
DN means nominal diameter or nominal diameter. Is the general caliber of various tube and pipe accessories, with a nominal diameter of the tube and pipe accessories can connect with each other, with interchangeability. It is not a real sense of the pipe diameter or diameter, although its value is closer with the pipe diameter or equivalent;De refers to the outer diameter,DN and Dn mean the same thing. Like De and de
Q: I have a pond pump and standard aquarium plastic tubing. I will be drilling tiny holes in equal increments throughout the tubing to release the air. Is there an equation to show the air pressure that will be released through the holes? I would like to know how many holes I need and how far to space them to achieve a certain amount of air pressure to be released from a specified length of tubing. This is a test and will not be done under water. A simple diffuser will not work for this application.Ideally I would like a formula where I can input the following and get a result:Tube LengthTube DiameterPump PSITube Hole SizeTube Hole QuantityTube Hole SpacingResultAirflow per Tube HoleAny help would be greatly appreciated. If you need more information please let me know.Thank you,
Well, I suppose it could be done, but you would need the pressure at each hole, which is decreasing as the tube length and water depth. And you have so many variables! I also like to calculate such things as you are doing, but this is really over the top! Here is what I would do; Get a measured paper cup (say 1 cup, or 1/4 litre). Experiment with various sizes and number of holes in your tubing, then hold the cup over the coiled tubing, under water at required depth, with air pump running. Measure the time to fill the inverted cup with air. If a 1/4 litre container fills with air in 15 seconds (1/4 minute), you know you are getting 1 litre per minute. Then try other hole configurations to get what you want. This would be more fun, more practical, and will give bettter results. Good luck Bill
Q: I need to find a wholesaler who sells clear plastic tubes, like what you would find buttons in in a craft store (needs to have a lid). They need be be about two inches in diameter, and 6-12 long. I've tried google, clearbags, and every resource I can think of, but I'm coming up short. Help is appreciated!
Ask other stores where they order there's from. Sure it's going to a competitor for help but when your desperate you gotta go!
Q: What is the best re-cycling method for plastic bottles & tubes?
There are many good reasons for recycling bottles, which saves energy, water and resources. Often the material can be recovered and refashioned into new bottles. But whole or partial containers can also be used in engaging, creative ways by individuals. See some of these innovative green designs here. I've been seeing flattened wine bottle serving trays for years at funky eco-boutiques and in catalogs, and I've always thought they were pretty cool. They come in many different colors and labels, and can be used as paddles if someone forgot to bring the brie. I hope people would try to recycle these bottles. :) Miana
Q: i have this artillery shellbut its not one of those one shot ball artillery shellits like a stick about 6 in longand inside are the shellsi think its a six shot and there's one fusei know i should use something called HDPEwhat is that and is the anything else i can use than HDPE
include photos i think i heard about what your talking about but the folks that had it blew up! so it may be dangerous is it active?
Q: Also if this isn't safe then how unsafe was it when some kid spilled a whole container of mercury on the floor in my class and started playing with it. Ya anyway i would never touch it.
Your Hg is safe in the tube and MUCH safer than some kid plating with it with his fingers. The expression Mad as a Hatter comes from olden days when the felt on hats was applied with a mercury paste by workers using their hands
Q: Can plastic tubes be used for structural purposes?
Yes, plastic tubes can be used for structural purposes. They are commonly used in construction and engineering projects for their lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant properties. Plastic tubes can provide structural support in various applications such as pipes, columns, beams, and trusses. However, the specific type and quality of plastic used, as well as the design and engineering considerations, should be taken into account to ensure their suitability for a particular structural purpose.
Q: Are plastic tubes suitable for hydrostatic pressure testing?
Yes, plastic tubes can be suitable for hydrostatic pressure testing. Plastic materials such as PVC, polyethylene, and polypropylene are commonly used for this purpose due to their strength and ability to withstand high pressure. However, the suitability of plastic tubes depends on various factors like the specific type of plastic, thickness, and intended pressure levels. It is important to consider the properties and limitations of the plastic material before conducting hydrostatic pressure testing.
