If I want to go simple, I can just plug in an ac adapter to the wall, but I don't want to consume any of the precious solar power if a 220V-5V ac/dc power adapter is not efficient. The adapter gets very hot and I believe it is consuming a lot of unnecessary power. Or I can use my 20W/16.5V/1.2A penal with a battery, which should be more than enough to power my device day and night. I have done a lot of googling but I still can't find a proper way to charge a battery with a 20W panel.Any input regarding the best way to supply power to the device will be greatly appreciated!

- Q:I have a bank of 10 flash caps all rated at around 300v and about 160 mF apiece. How do I charge this?
- A DC power supply that can deliver about 290 volts (NOT over 300 volts) will do that. A series power resistor based on the current output of the supply will limit the peak charging current to a safe value. For example, a voltage doubler from the 120 VAC line will deliver 330 volts DC. If you can find a transformer with a 200 volt 1 amp secondary, that will produce about 280 VDC. A 100 ohm power resistor in series will limit the current to 3 amps. Peak power in the resistor would be 1000 watts. Resistors in this capacity are very expensive. I'd try 3 120 volt 200 watt light bulbs in series instead. Under that setup, charge time will be: time constant is 100x10x0.16 160 seconds, and several time constants will get you charged up. EDIT, I'm taking your word on the caps size, and the above calculations reflect that. But I think they are actually 160?F, not 160mF. The latter would be much too large to fit in a cameral. Capacitor manufacturers tend to use m when they mean ? for some reason lost in history. In that case, the series resistor need only be a 500 ohm 50 watt unit and the charge time will be a few seconds. .

- a power of attorney has limits, all depends what you have power of attorney over. some power of attorney papers allow you to have financial access, can make medical decisions, there may be only specific things the power of attorney applies to. read it and see what it says.
- Q:Hello everyone! I am trying to power a device off of a rechargeable battery. I am going to be making a xbox360 laptop but I would like it to be completely cordless. Like I was thinking of taking lithium Ion cells out of laptop batteries and soldering them together to make a bigger power bank to power the xbox360. But the one thing I am wondering is if that would be a good idea? I would like to know every ones input or if anyone has made like lithium ion battery banks or has modified some laptop batteries or something of similar sort and what there out come has been like. I am a very technical and handy person and not afraid to zap myself in the process :) so please leave a comment with your feed back :) any at all is fine, aslong as it relates to the topic :)! - To make power banks out of laptop batteries is somewhat difficult. The problem would be about recharging mostly, and a little about voltage matching. I doubt if anybody has ever managed to do that successfully. Other more feasible approach I would think, is to use lithium ion or polymer batteries commonly used in Radio-Controlled toys and its general battery charger. That way you can fit the voltage, number of cells, and be able to use balancer and general smart battery charger for your purpose.
