- best thing to do is replace the tube. the rubber part inside the plastic nut was formed to the old faucet. Best to do the job right, than to wake up in the middle of the night listening to water dripping. Also don't use the plumbers putty, if your going to cut corners use teflon tape.

- My syrian got stuck and it took us about an hour to free him without hurting his little body. I wouldn't reccomend it, I would get a large wire cage, you can add whatever you want to them and they are airy and hammys love them much more than the kind with the tubes. If you want tubes go with paper towel rolls, with a slit down one side so that they cannot get themselves stuck. The tubes are better suited dwarves.
