its usually approximated in usual situations to be 3.00E8m/s or 300 000 km/s. its not quite, but it is close. and no we have not reached the speed of light yet, and we never will. as predicted by the special theory of relativity, as you increase in speed, the mass of an object also increases (an immeasurably small amount in everyday scenarios, but when approaching the speed of light it increases ever faster and faster. as the mass of an object increases, the energy required to accelerate that object any further also increases. eventually, at the speed of light, the mass of an object increases to become infinite, meaning the energy required to get it to that speed is also infinite. since that amount of energy clearly isn't up for grabs, especially not by us humans, we will never be able to reach or exceed the speed of light. this is the reason why only electromagnetic waves, and other waves with no intrinsic mass of their own can ever travel at that speed.

CFLs and Fluros consume less energy than incandescent bulbs but many more are required for optimum growth. For indoors plants need HID lights. Either MH or HPS or maybe both, to really thrive. If you are just moving your house plants inside for the winter I would not recommend investing in a HID system but if you are growing prized orchids or an indoor vegetable garden you will need to. And yes HID's use more energy than incandescents, CFLs or fluros.

Jake, This is very easy to understand... Put all light together to get white... this is due to ADDITIVE COLOUR mixing. Because 'white' light is composed of all the light colours... when you bring them all together, you get white light as a result. Mixing paint together gets black... this is due to SUBTRACTIVE colour mixing. Paint appears a certain colour because it absorbs every other colour except for the paint's colour. So blue paint absorbs every colour except blue. and red pain absorbs every colour except red. So eg. If you mis blue and red... first the blue absorbs every thing and only spits out blue... But if you mix with Red.., it will absorb this blue as well, and spit out red (which has already been absorbed by the blue paint).. and so you get black..(well a greyish colour). This is the reason why... in light Yellow is NOT a primary colour.. as you mix Green and Blue to give Yellow... Where-as in Paint, Yellow is a primary colour (as you use Yellow with Blue to get GREEN)

Yes they are light rays. Just because the human eye can't see them does not effect the fact that they are light. Light rays are a type of electromagnetic energy. in the range of 4000 (violet) to 7700 (red) in the EM Spectrum Radio waves are not a type of light. X rays are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and are a type of light but beyond our visual perception.
