- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a pergola or shade structure?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a pergola or shade structure. In fact, this is a popular option for homeowners who want to maximize their solar energy production while also providing additional shade and functionality to their outdoor space. The pergola or shade structure can serve as a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing platform to mount the solar panels, allowing for dual benefits of energy generation and outdoor comfort.
- Q: What materials are solar panels made of?
- Solar panels are typically made of silicon, which is a semiconductor material, along with other components such as metal frames, glass, and protective layers.
- Q: I don't have a regulator connected as they are a little expensive for a pensioner, If I join the panels into line to the battery bank from the roof should that be OK.?
- I am pretty darn sure you need the regulator because all the advertising says that you must have one if you have more than one small solar panel. I think you can overcharge your batteries otherwise. Solar power is still not cost effective, so most people have solar power because they care about the environment more than they care about expenses. If you are poor, it is better to skip solar power, unless you are in an area where there isn't access to electricity. For example, we have a cabin without electricity. I am a strong environmentalist, too. Solar power is too expensive still, for low income people. It is better to focus on energy conservation, imo. such as change your roof to white, to save on A/C, as the head of the US energy dept. says (he is a nobel prize winning physicist). PS Dave might be right on that stuff, i don't know. but all the ads say you need a regulator if you are going to have more than one solar panel so I assumed this was due to risk of overcharging.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a condominium or apartment building?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a condominium or apartment building.
- Q: How to Compare Solar Panels? ?
- The best way to compare each type of solar panel is selecting them according to your energy need under the same roof. GetBunny, is the source path, where you can easily compare and choose the best suitable solar panels for your needs.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed in areas with high wind speeds?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed in areas with high wind speeds. However, it is important to ensure that the solar panels are designed and installed to withstand the specific wind conditions of the area. This may involve using appropriate mounting systems and anchoring techniques to secure the panels effectively. Additionally, regular maintenance and inspections should be conducted to ensure the panels remain secure and efficient in such conditions.
- Q: 3.8 volts is required to fully charge a battery. But at 3.8 volts, the battery can be overcharged without the use of a controller correct? What if I don't care if the battery is fully charged? In the case of our family boat, I just installed a new radio, so I'm a little worried about power consumption. So now for the real question; If I hook a 2 volt panel to the batteries, do I need to worry about overcharging them? Or will the batteries stop the charging process once they reach 2 volt?I built the panel myself, it's 8 volts at 3.5 amps open circuit. I have tabs at every 3 volt increment on the panel so that I can use less voltage than 8 if I want to power something directly, (ex:2 volt radio)So I'm using the 2 volt tab at 3.5 amps(approx) for a total of approx 48 watts
- Batteries will not stop charging on their own. The will stop charging when the battery voltage equals the supply voltage. Solar panel open circuit voltage is typically around 20V. Batteries will just boil dry before reaching 20V. One rule of thumb, above 0W you need a controller for sure.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a restaurant?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a restaurant. Solar panels harness energy from the sun and convert it into electricity, which can be used to power various appliances and systems in a restaurant, including lighting, refrigeration, cooking equipment, and HVAC systems. By installing solar panels, restaurants can reduce their dependency on traditional energy sources, lower their electricity bills, and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with limited access to electricity?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with limited access to electricity. Solar panels can generate electricity from sunlight, allowing them to provide a reliable source of power in remote or off-grid locations. These areas can benefit greatly from solar energy as it is a sustainable and renewable resource that can help meet their energy needs.
- Q: I am doing a school project and we need to find the cost of solar panels for our school. The problem is i don't know what size the system needs to be. Is it 000 watts or 000000 watts? Also can you find the cost of the system? Thanks
- Good question I am uncomfortable doing my child's homework so I will not complete the assignment for you. I am also always willing to help. Having the kWh is a great start. You must also ask the question when you size a system is there any way to reduce this load. Each kWh that you do not have to produce saves significant cost to the system. Next what type of system grid tied or off grid the two systems will have very different size needs and overall cost. I googled PV system sizing and got the below link. at first glance I like it. You can do the same for system cost. I also included a trade link for your review factors in sizing system type amount of bill offsetting geographic location site location track mounted or fixed and more Should you need additional help you can email me I will not do your work for you but I can either verify it or point you in the right direction
